I have an Aardvark direct pro 24/96 and since the new drivers were released I upgraded to Win-2000. I set up a dual boot and all went well until I tried to use the newly installed drivers with N-track and some dx plug-ins. Very unstable with weird small issues on the display of n-track.

After reformating and reinstalling and etc for about a week the thought hit me that maybe it had something to do with the new direct X 8.1 version I had installed. I found a direct-x uninstaller and put the original W-2000 files back on and guess what, my problems seem to be gone. Very stabel and very low latency.

If you are having problems maybe its Direct-X. Do you think this is just a fluke or whats the deal with Direct-X 8.1 ?

Make sure you installed the right version of Direct X - there is 8.1 for the Windows 9X machines, and a different 8.1 for 2000 machines.

Beyond that I can't say much, all my own stuff is either 98SE or XP.

I installed the right one. I think direct-x 8.1 does not work well with some of the older plug-ins and n-track.

Try this post in the n-track forum, there might be somebody there that knows more about n-track, and can help you!

And not much with anything else, actually.

Most DirectSound fetaures that plugins use are sufficiently met with DX 7.0a.

You should upgrade to DX8 or 8.1 if you have a DX-8 compliant video card and want to enjoy all the kewl new Pixel and vertex shader games out there.

There's no single other reason why you should upgrade. DX upgrades are now just adding features. So far they're maxed out on perfromance, till DX9 anyhow.
