okay...I'm trying to put together a silent home studio for my friends to come in and record with me...as a base I have my Yamaha MT8x cassette 8track...my main focus will be recording two acoustic guitars, then bouncing tracks and laying in other instruments after that...now...my 8track only has 4 channels listed as mic/line...the rest are just line...my guess, is that I can plug my acoustic guitar mics (sm57s) directly into the jacks marked mic/line...and then use the rest of the tracks for electric instruments and whatnot...my electric guitar rigs will consist of two main floor processors for the guitars (gfx-4 and 8)...and I'm sure that'll work fine for the line jacks...my question is, for the bass rig I'm planning on buying a bass EQ pedal and a DOD classic tube bass pedal...then connecting those directly into the 8track...is that possible? do I need some sort of preamp?....and as far as the acoustic mics...do I need a preamp for those, or can I just stick them right into the mic/line jack on my onboard mixer like I thought? and if I were to plug a mic into a "line" jack, would I need a preamp? (the line and mic/line are the same sort of jack, this onboard mixer has no XLRs) thank you very very much...I'm still learning about all this recording equipment and possible setups...
P.S I can't mic amps because of the space I'm in...but if I could, and I wanted to record more than 4 mics at a time...would I need some sort of preamp?
thank you,
