Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. I'll be greatfull to receive any comments and practical information about the Aardvark Direct Pro LX6 audio interface.
How do you think it will work with my system:
P3 669Mhz 256MB Ram
now using SBLive platinium
running 3 optional OS - Win98 with Cubase VST or XP with Cubase SX. Also installed is Win2000 but with no Audio/Sequenser program on it yet.
Thanks!

First, let me say, I think the LX6 will be a great choice. I am using this with a P3 766 Win XP Pro Cubase VST with good results. If you look at the forums for the last year, there have been many issues with the drivers for XP. I have experienced them all, and on my system everything now works great. It is my understanding that Cubase SX requires a more powerful platform, and you may be better off staying with Cubase VST with your computer. If you want to dual boot (I don't know anything about doing this, so I'm not recommending it necessarily) I guess you could try each. The LX6 is a good choice if you have preamps, such as on your mixer, that you can use. Otherwise, the DP 24/96 has built in preamps that are supposed to be very good. One advantage of the Aardvark cards over the similar M-Audio is that the Aardvark gives you midi access. This may or may not be important to you; it was to me.
You may want to increase your RAM to 512. And you need a good size disk drive with DMA and at least 7200 RPM.
Good luck!

Thanks for the input.
A little time have passed since I posted this message. I have already bought the LX6 and so far it's been great. Downloaded the updated drivers from Aardvark. I have a problem running Cubase SX with WinXP Pro on my machine. It works very good with Win2000 though. Any ideas?
One other thing, what is DMA and how do I now if I have it in hard drive?

Glad your liking the LX6. I have the DP 24/96 w/ XP and VST5 and never did experience any of the problems people were having. I love my DP for 2+ years now. It (XP) actually made my system more stable. I'm now trying to decide if I should get A)another DP or B) Q10 and sell my DP or C) get a mixer and a LX6 to go along w/ my DP.
I think C makes the most sense but I like the lack of gear one needs with the Q10 and DP. Another thing... I just found out the Q10 doesn't have the on board effects like the DP. I like em for monitoring. & I put the EQ to "Tape" often.

Nenor- You'll find your DMA settings in the device manager (Right click My Computer, properties, Hardware,Device Manager) a few lines down there will be -IDE ATA controller ... click on it, then click on Primary IDE channel. I think in XP it chooses DMA mode Automaticaly if you have ...If available, checked. In 95/98 there would be a little box that just said DMA next to it and you would check it and re-start your PC.

I'll bet your already in DMA mode. IF not you'd probably have crackles in your Audio.

Good Luck,
B.

I'm sure your hard disk supports DMA. Just make sure its checked. as above. Sorry to worry you with that.

I'm having none of those pesky problems with the new drivers. I should say that, during all of that driver turmoil, I was still making good recordings with my LX6. I trusted that Aardvark would come through and resolve those issues, and they did. I love my LX6!

OK guys, you've been very helpfull.
I will check how Cubase VST runs on Win XP. However, since SX runs well on Win2000 for me I think I'll stick with that. Maybe the XP-SX combination requires a stronger machine... I might add this extra memory though.

One more thing.
I would like to share with everyone here my thoghts about the Colombia space shuttle tragedy. I feel a little close since I'm from Israel and my country had an astronaut on this flight. I have no words to express my shock.

I am thinking about replacing my 1010 with an Aardvark LX-6. Long stiry as to why, but am I gonna see a drop in quality or are they similar. Thanks.
