Correct advice, but you would be reliant on the quality of the mixer's pre-amp for your bass sound (unless you're using an active). No harm in trying, but if you find the sound disappointing you'll want a higher quality pre-amp.
The tiny little voltage from a passive pick up carries a lot of information but in a very weak way; what happens to it next - i.e. the quality of how it is beefed up to a line level signal - is crucial to your sound.
