Sorry if it seems like i am posting my problem on every post possible, but i am really stressing about what to do!

heres my problem:

Do i go for the sblaster audigy platinum /platinum EX so that i have a good all round card, great for beginners, cheap, and all the connections i need. Or do i go for the audiophile 2496 which has only one of the connections i need, is a good card music wise, and is upgradeable.

So to outline, do i go for a card that has everything i need now, isn't upgradeable but can be used in conjunction with a dif card later, and used for games. Or do i spend all my money now on a good base card, that i can gradually upgrade, bit by bit. ?

Please help me!

You didn't really post enough about what you're needing to do.

But, the answer is to get the audiophile. Plain and simple. Does it not have SPDIF or something? If not you can always pick up an SPDIF card later. Or just save up for a Delta66, which doesn't have a MIDI port, but your existing soundcard probably does.

Blah, the choice is simple. Go for the better converters....that's really what your biggest concern should be, both for recording AND playback.

well the soundcard i have now is bust. but a replaceable midi card isn't that expensive, what i am needing to do is;
1)record my guitar through my j-station (s/pdif in needed on card)
2)record a mic, as good quality as possible, preferably both at the same time guitar + mic.
I would like to beable to record music onto my minidisc (optical out needed) but it isn't a must. i also require a midi port, one that will send data to my j-station (effects and stuff)

the first two are needed now, and my budget is £200 ($350) but i am in the UK, so i need to be able to get hold of the products, and remember prices are higher over here than in the states, or anywhere else for that matter!

Get an Audiophile and a cheap ass card for midi and still ahve all your connections you need for under $200.....

Yeah, what gidge said! The optical out probably isn't that necessary since you can just take a line out and record to your MD the old fashioned way. Unless there's a reason that you need a perfect copy to MD?

Well it would be nice. hehe

My main problem with the audiophile is taht it has no mic in, any suggestions?? baring in mind i require to beable to record them both at the same time.

thanks alot for the help by the way :D

P.S. the audiophile 2496 is selling for about £160 over here.

not a lot of "cheap" good cards have mic ins....if you wanna use a mic, just get a preamp like everyone else and go into the line in.....

if you must do straight digital transfers, midiman makes a coaxial/optical converter.......

it seems the Soundblasters you mentioned does have everything as far as features you want in a card but youll soon find it doesnt have the digital audio quality you want......

Sorry but a preamp means nothing to me :( could you explain basically what one is, lol i am such a n00b!

Is there a microphone that has optical output? but then i would have to record the guitar and the vocals seperate as the s/pdif slot would be pre-occupied with the j-station (guitar) with the converter. every corner i turn i find a new problem lol!!!

thanks again
