After selecting a patch and playing for about 30 seconds, the sound suddenly turns to sh|t, horrible distorted noise, even worse than my old zoom pedal used to make. The display flashes 'Empty' while this is going on. I select another patch and it's noise-free for about another 30 seconds and then it's back into the sh!t again...

On the way out do you think? Or maybe if I soak it in a bath of WD40 for a couple of days..?

The first thing to check would be the internal lithium battery.

Ah, good suggestion, thanks.

Didn't even think about the battery

Um, it doesn't appear to have a battery.

Any other ideas?

It actually does look like there's a battery to store the patches. I assume checking that would require pulling it apart though. Is it still under warranty?

Well there's no mention of a battery in the manual. The presets could be held on flash memory. The unit's around 5 years old.

throw that piece a dung in the trash bin and use a amp with stomp boxes Bulls Hit!

Contact Digitech. Depending on luck, you might hit on someone actually able to help. Some are dicks, though.
