Im trying to understand the chain of equipment I would need were I to buy a 16 channel mixing board. I want to bring everything in through the board, and then mix down on the board (as opposed to software)

Whats the best digital medium to use as a replacement for analog tape?
Dat? Adat? Hard drive? Ive seen the Tascam 24 Track Digital recording hard drives that Im assuming take the place of tape. Im geussing I can use my PC's Hard drive, but what are we looking at for software? Sonar? Pro tools?
Im want to be able to mix it through the board and not on the screen.

Whats the best cost effective method here?

(I hope Im not being to vauge)

Thanks in advance
Todd

Dont worry about storage. Worry about your multitrack recorder (DAW, HDD, Analog, etc.) unless you are just going live to tape.

Then pick a storage method that works best for your recorder.

Check out the Computer Recording and Soundcard Forum, that'll answer most all your questions.
