hey all,

You all probably get this question all the time, but im looking into buying a digital recording workstation (korg, roland, boss etc) but i need advice on which one is the best!
I want to be able to:
- Record my band
- Great sound quality
- Something not to hard to get used to (doesnt bother me to much though)
- Be able to edit recordings (if possible, or if not what is a good PC program to do so)
- Finalise the recording and be able to burn the demo on cd!

I can use all the help i can get

Thx guys and girls!

The best is the Korg D3200.
Then the Tascam Neo.
Zoom R16.
Entirely subjective except for the Korg.
There's just no debate on that one.
They are all complicated.
I have not included any that are out of production or limited to 16 bit recording.

ah sweet
yea i was leading towards korg d3200 because of its reviews.
ive checked out one from ebay brand new for 1177$ including shipping to australia which is cheapest considering its new, only problem m worrid that it way get damaged along the way, it will be insured and has warrenty.
Have u ever had problems with the d3200?

Also im really new to this game, to record my band am i able to use mics for drums / amps so on through the d3200? would it come up reasonably good? and what mics are good for live sounds or picking amps / drums up.

thanks !!

ah ok awsome,
if u dont mind me asking how much did u pay for a second hand one? and did u have any problems from it? i just assumed it was so good that if someone was selling it, it was because of a fault.

cheers

I bought the shop's rental unit for $1200 CAD.
Nothing wrong with it other than looking used.
I only record with it and do all of the editing on the PC.
I could have purchased the Tascam Neo new for the same price.
Sat them side by each on the counter.
Took them both into a quiet room to listen to the hard drives.
The Tascam was quieter but missing a few features.(Can't remember which)
The clerk convinced me with his "Better Preamps" comment though then he dropped the price down from $1300.
I'm sure the Tascam Neo is an excellent choice too but they keep adding improvements and coming out with new model numbers for them... MK II, Neo etc.
This has a detrimental effect on the value of your six month old studio as well as leaving you feeling like you got second best.
Korg has made no improvements to the D3200.
There is a rumour that one is coming but they tend more to discontinue their current models rather than relaunch them.

ah sweet as, thanx jim u been great help. i think i will buy it new from this guy, 1177$ US and comes with korg warrenty so if there are any problems i can send it back, rather than buy a second hand and have problems that cant be fixed.

That's a good price.
I'm in my fifties and a lot of owners are around the same age so there are a lot of complaints about the screen size. (We need to admit we need glasses now)
Unwarranted, I think.
Those thingies with big screens are called computers.

hahaha i cant talk, i need glasses myself and im in 20s haha. awsome jim thanks mate.
I will buy a d3200 most likely, u have convinced me, and reviews have so im sure i wont have a problem :)
cheers

Product Information: KORG's D3200 32-Track Digital Recording Studio is the first in its class to provide up to 32 tracks of simultaneous playback and up to 16 tracks of simultaneous recording. This is one of the best all in one digital recorders around. Buyer pays $25 shipping in the Continental US. All others pay actual shipping and any other applicable charges. Please email with any questions you may have. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

Is that the same one???? looks the same lol

That's the one I have.
Not the same as what's for sale.
Nice going!
That's why I suggested going used.
E-Bay has had a run on them recently for about the same price you paid.
The hard drives are replaceable.
Just the same as PC hard drives.
I'd introduce myself at Studiotrax when the machine arrives.
Some of the guys/gals there really know these machines.
Have fun with it. ♫

There's a thread on that site that deals with compatibility but you shouldn't need to change the hard drive.
Enjoy!
