I am finally at the point of building my studio in purchasing my hardware for recording.

My question right now is this...

I am recording digitally with my computer. If I purchase like a 16 channel mixer what do I hook that up to, and how?

I'm assuming my soundcard of course, but how is that accomplished (With what cords?)? What kind of soundcard would be good for a 16 channel mixer in your opinion?

Please post back people.

Thanks a bunch.

do some more research you got far enough to know about recording

Be sure you want to use the mixer....my big mistake with computer recording was that i got a mixer and mix into my computer when i recorded...then on Sonar i had no individual control of my tracks....depending on what kind of software you have it might be best to get a soundcard with however many inputs you need. then get a preamp. then go right into the sound card with your mics..Just mix it in your software if you can...My soundcard suggestion is based on your price range...if you got the money get the delta 1010 a cheaper solution is the maya 1010 or the delta 1010Lt

Well heres my uneducated thinking.

I am only recording one mic right now but in the future I want to be able to record drums, etc. all at once and I'm thinking that only a mixer can accomplish this?

I will be using Adobe Audition so I can layout all my tracks digitally so I really don't neeeed the mixer but its my only thoughts as to how to be able to get that many mics hooked up as well as that many headphones if need be.

Any suggestions for a work around? Forseen problems?

I just want the absolute best minimal ammount of gear possible to produce good quality sound... for about like 2 g's.

Help?

Very much worth considering. That would accomplish all I need without the big old board, which I really don't need since I'm doing it all digital. Ah I dunno, this helped though. Learning how things hook up etc. :)

Ok now my only question is what about a compressor? Any suggestions?

So far after going through reviews of the presonus firepod, i think i might get it. Not one bad review and the specs look good. PLus presonus is a good company.
