Hey hey. I took my rack to a friend's project studio tonight to set up a session with a folk rock band. We planned to run my Octopre to his MOTU 828 via the optical connection. However, we had a whole shitload of problems. It was the newest version of DP that he had loaded (and never used yet) onto a Mac laptop. We're not sure what's causing my problem, but here it is:

The Optical Input light on the 828 wouldn't come on when I had the octopre (with the spdif and adat digital conversion card) set to external sync with the 828 as master. It would come on, however, when both the Octopre and 828 were set as master clocks. Moreover, when it did display the tracks in DP, it only showed "Toslink 1" and "Toslink 2". Isn't the optical connection supposed to send all eight tracks? We weren't even getting a signal on the two "Toslink" tracks. I'm sure I'm just missing some piece of info here, I'm not used to working with this type of digital connection. And I hardly know DP at all. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the 828's MOTU FireWire Audio Console, did you have the optical inputs set to ADAT and the clock source as ADAT optical (Octopre would be master)?

Hmm. I had it set as Toslink. I'll try that tonight.

Yeah .... toslink is SPDIF optical. That's why you only showed two inputs and you got no signal because you where sending ADAT.
