digital input recording problems

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble recording digital input from the RCA digital out 1 of my Roland VS-1680 into my Dio2448 soundcard. (To master the audio off my 1680 on my PC)

When I hit record or analyze on the PC, it says there is no SPDIF signal and to check connections, etc.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a special setting on the 1680 perhaps? Is there a certain way I should set this up?

I would be very grateful for any pointers whatsoever.

Thanx!

~Daniel

yep

Yep, 75 ohm double shielded S/PDIF RCA cable.

Thanx though ...

Still doesn't seem to want to work ...

Make sure that you have selected Spdif in your recording software and your sound card software as the clock source...and in the 1680 also.

it seems there are 2 S/PDIF inputs (one coaxial, one optical)...are you using the right one?....

try changing settings in the control panel, specifically SPDIF format.....try normal and inverse.......or press analyze and let it find the correct setting.....

Is there anywhere in the control mixer to set the 2448 as master or slave?.....try fooling with that....

also make sure youve checked off monitor SPDIF-IN at analog out.....

still won't work, damnit!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all your responses!

Still nothing ... I think it must be a driver problem. When I reboot my PC, it says there "msgsrv32 has caused a problem" and it hangs. I reboot again, and everything works fine. (Weird!)

I uninstalled my audio device drivers, then let windows find it again, and I pointed it to the drivers on the CD.

I then tried the Dio2448 "analyze" program that looks at the SPDIF signal coming in. FOR ONCE, it said, "SPIDIF recording is ready!"

So, I jumped for joy and started up my software ... NOTHING ... it had an error and froze up. I tried another program ... SAME THING.

Then, it was back to square one. I couldn't get the card to recognize incoming sound after that.

I think the drivers on this sucker are screwy. I got the card at Mars Music and they gave me a discount because it had been returned by a previous customer (I wonder why!)

So, I'll give it one more try this afternoon and if I don't have any luck, screw it. I'll buy another one.

So ... any recommendations on what card I should buy for sending digital audio from my 1680 to my PC if I return this one? (Or even standard RCA L/R analog audio??)

I want to master and apply additional post-recording effects to my master stereo mix on my 1680, so I don't need a mega-monster card, I just need something that will input a super clean signal (preferably digital) into my desktop PC.

You guys have been really awesome, you guys really know your stuff around here, and I appreciate everyone that took the time to reply!

I'll post an update this afternoon. (Like I said, the soundcard had been returned previously, I assume because of problems like this. If it sucks, it sucks, and let's make sure everyone knows.)

Thanks again!
