i am recording direct into my computer through my external sound card-creative's extigy. i use cool edit pro 2. my operating system is windows xp. my processor is amd thoroughbred. my motherboard is abit nf7. i am recording onto a maxtor 120 gig hard drive.
with this in mind, some help would be appreciated.
when i record, there are noticeable clicks, or pops on the recorded track.
this problem doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make me crazy!
if anyone know why this is happening, please respond.
perhaps a configuration problem, i dunno.
thanks

well, from your pc specs, your machine seems to be up to the task. I assume you've probably also got plenty of RAM.

I've never used the exigy but I assume it has some sort of control panel...If you have the option, adjust the buffer on the control panel. Otherwise, you can adjust the record/playback buffers in Cooledit under settings.

I think that should solve it. Other than that, make sure you dont have any gigantically resource hogging apps running in the background or otherwise and I should think you'd be fine...

trogdor is close to the money since the issue isn't constant, it's most likely one of three, ram, resources, or input levels...

even though i've read of cables causing a similar issue, just a thought, best luck..

Its more due to the fact its an external USB interface. Dump the Extigy for a PCI card and you'll be all set.
