Hay cool people of home recording.:) Can youall reccomend a good(cheap) computer program that can be used to mimic guitar chords, drums, and other instruments etc. So that I can experiment with making songs without a full band. My guess is that most progs do this but I dont know cause im an audiovirgin;) Oh Yah ill be using a art tube pre, a beringer mod. pro, and a Shure sm57 with the prog also. Thanks, Peace.

Virtual guitarists and Drumagog would be nice. Or, if you have a sampler instrument player in your recording software, you could use sample CD's.

Does the dumbed down version of cool edit do this also?

I dont think CEP has a native instrument player. You would probably have to go third party like halion and such. But then I dont really know if CEP supports plug in instruments or not. Check there website. www.syntrillium.com

hmm i searched through that site and didnt find much waht im looking for. A program where you can plot guitar chords and have it play them and drum beats etc. Virtual Guitarists and Drumagog werent on that site but ill try to find info on them elsewhere. Anyone else knosof/has experience with a program like this? Thanks:)

You won't find what you're looking for in CEP. Though it's an awesome, awesome program, it's basically just a WAV editor and multi-track recorder, meaning you need to record something to use it. You'd use it if you wanted to record parts with live instruments and add lots of cool effects.

If I understand your needs correctly, you could get something like Sonar (http://www.cakewalk.com/), but it costs a pretty penny. This program includes MIDI support, and you can write music in it via a piano roll or a musical staff. Better yet, if you have a high-end sound card with soundfont support, you can apply digital sound patches to the MIDI you compose in Sonar. If you don't have soundfont support, you could spend a few more bucks on an add-on program called LiveSynth Pro that offers the same functionality. Unfortunately, this all costs hundreds of dollars.

A much cheaper alternative for the drums is the sub-$100 Fruity Loops, an excellent loop based drum machine software. For guitars, I usually record them live so I don't know any programs to synthesize them. :)

oh yah ive heard of froot loops before just drums though eh? weel band in abox looks promising, and only 88 bucks too

Fruity Loops started as just a drum machine, but now it's a fully-realized loop based music program, IMO almost on par with Acid Pro. It's easier to use than that program, that's for sure. I can't vouch for or against Band in a Box, but Fruity Loops will almost certainly be a worthwhile investment.
