Hi everyone, I'm new to the board, glad to find this place. I was wondering if anyone knows about a digital drum machine/kit program, preferably free, that can just play some basic drum samples and loop them with variations when needed. I use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) for my multi-track recording, which, btw, is a phenomonal program that does everything acid or other commercial multitrack recording programs can do for free. I just want to be able to put some kind of drum beat to my stuff for demo purposes, as I'm not with a band at the moment and aren't much of a drummer. Anything that could do basic to complex drum stuff would be great. Most of my music has an indie, belle & sebastian quality to it, though I do have a lot of rockers, so a good balance would work well.

Thanks for any help.

If you want to try out programs for free, just about everything you could possibly find is listed at hitsquad.com/smm

I use a program called BFD. It's far from free, but it is well worth the price of admission. 7 classic acoustic kits all recorded so you're dealing with real samples, not fake drums. And there's alot of flexibility in programming.

Maybe will work for you.

Hello, I am also new to the field but have done some recording and demo's and have used Beatcraft from the begining and have been very pleased with it. Not expensive and easy to use. Well thats my two cents. DJLUND :)

i really hate click tracks!!!!!

i have a simular delema(besides my spelling)with beats.....i don't have any to work with but, and don't laugh too hard, a casio thats about ten years old.

i probably don't have to tell you how much i need to update my synth related area of my recordings.

any tips out there on affordable drum machines?

i.e. 200 and less.

and stereo phile, I hope one of us gets some good advice cuz it really bites layin down good ideas without creative balance rythmiclly.

AND CLICK TRACKS ARE FOR MATHMATICS MAJORS.

I also don't use click tracks because my timing is so horrible, so I use a drumbeat.

I recently bought ToonTrack's EZ drummer and I'm really pleased with the sound, I don't think I'll ever need to switch to a different drum machine.

I've never had any luck with free ones but I also haven't tried them all.
