Digital Camcorder for recording audio?

Hello! I just bought a digital video camera to wich I can connect an external microphone and record (I think!) pretty better audio than with a tape recorder, I just wanted to know if anyone has experience with these, maybe for videotaping a live performance and asking the console guy to pass you a line out for you cam or something like that... any good tricks?? how about recording audio I will edit later in cool edit pro or pro tools free??
 
Typically they will record stereo audio at 16-bit, 44.1 (or 48?) kHz. You could transfer the audio + video to a computer in digital form via a Firewire port. I guess if you had a good stereo mix you could capture it this way. Certainly way better than a cassette recorder...

hhmm... didn't know about those mics, have you ever tried one?? well the camera already has an stero built-in mic, but I don't like the frequency response, haven't read the spec. but it seems to me that it's more meant for spoken audio, because it doesn't pick up low frequency very well...
I suppose it would be better to just transfer it digital via firewire port with the whole video, and it that's good, I guess I'm gonna start recording trought my cam! 'cause I have a shitty Audio Card that adds a lot of noise, so is there any way I can record mic -> preamp -> cam -> Cool edit pro??

The input on the camera is a mic level, is it not? You would not want to put a preamp in front of that.

I think most capture applications will allow you to get just the audio if you want. It'll be a standard WAV file. If not, most video editing packages let you export the audio track as a WAV.
 
It would be worth your while to go ahead and get a good recording with a dat or MD using condencer mics and good pres. then sync them up with DDClip pro for your best results.
