I am new to this...I have a fairly big PC..and have been recording my music all on midi...and syncing with reel to reel for my multi-tracked vocals.
I now want to go all digital.
how do I now record vocals into pc...with a Cakewalk type program?..do I need an converter of some type?..do I need some pre-amp to send signal into pc?...help please!
 
sounds like you'll have evrything but the audio interface trak mentioned .. there are heaps out there , the event range being just a few of whats on offer .. So if your just recording vocals then you would get away with a single input soundcard ... But basically the interface trak mentioned is a soundcard that sits in a pci slot of your computer .. It will either have a breakout box (external box with inputs and outputs) or they will be on the card its self.. well good luck and ask heaps of questions before purchasing....
 
Thanks for tip...I went to the site for the EZbus...it looks like a mixer/interface, but I didn't see a "card" that would fit into a PCI slot..which is what I imagined...I am off to the local Guitar Center to check these out. But I am correct that I do need a "preampt" to get the signal from the mike juiced up to get into the PC?
 
Preamps.

The EZBus has two mic preamps with +48V phantom power so no you wouldn't need an extra preamp.

You could also check out http://www.tascam.com

They have a similar interface/mixer but in my opinion the EZBus is better.
