I'm lookin up to a thousand bucks. I'm really looking at the Boss BR8 and the Korg D12

if any of you have any recommendations, please tell me, and i'll check em out.

I'm recording my 4 piece band, me on guitar and vox, a lead guitarist, bassist, drummer. I have a shure sm 57, some 30 dollar radioshack conference mic, and a crappy one that seems to work out fine.

Well, i'm going to be recording live and mixing and importing to computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

btw, also looking at the Yamaha AW4416HDCD Hard Disk Recorder w/CD Burner

anyone had any experience with any of these?

Yo Dark One with Wings:

I use the Yamaha 2816 which is very similar to the 4416. I only have 8 faders which double up; the 4416 has 16 faders.

The sound quality is great considering the cost.

The manual is a vacuum; whoever writes those for Yamaha must be in an insane asylum for old composition students.

However, if you have some PC and recorder experience, and are willing to read, read, read, the manual, you will get around the unit.

Burning CDR's is about the easiest part of the unit. You just make a stereo track of your "tracks recorded" and then punch the buttons and do a CDR.

It took me a while to understand the unit but I can get around on it nicely now; however, there is still more to learn.

The 4416 and 2816 are really miniature PC's with a small screen. The 4416 can plug in a mouse; I'm not sure about a mouse for the 2816.

It's a great unit, whichever one you pick; try to get a demo on the unit or find someone who has one in your area and get a preview.

PS: You will need to buy a UPS backup power supply if you buy either unit; it doesn't cost much and insures your data if you are recording and suddenly the power crashes. GH

:D :D :p :p

yo turtlebee,
thanks man, your advice always rocks :)

heh yea if it's like a computer but smaller, then I definitely should probably not get it. I'm really not good with machanics, and that's why I'm gettin a DAW, enough of cubase, ugh....anyway, thanks a lot

you have no idea how much i appreciate it.

Cubase is a DAW. So are the other units you mentioned. All DAW's are like a computer but smaller.

If you want something simple get a mixer and an ADAT or an HD24.

:D Yo TEX of the Road:

You took the "words" right out of my mouth.

Angel of the Dark:]

Any DAW will respond like a computer but instead of a mouse you have a "jog wheel" and arrow buttons to move the cursor.

So, look around and examine the units and see what works best for you and your mind-set.

Enjoy,

That would be my choice too. ADAT and a Mackie. Simplicity itself.

Pretty soon, pretty soon. I need to sell some stuff first.

heh sorry i'm really bad with this. Yes i'm going for that touch feel mix ajustment I can get with these machine's, but truthfully i don't think there that much like computers. Not as many technical problems IMO and easier to use. Nice lil booklets come with em too =)

hmm...

i would not get the br8. i'm shure that it wound do the lob and all but, it's tigh in space. i only gives you 100mb and to record a norm song (2-5mn) with drums, guitar, bass, vocals, ect, ect and mixing it will take at least over 250mb. i wound suggest the fostex vf-16. i have one myself. it's a great recorder. it has a 10gb hard drive so i have like 15 hours to recorded with. i is a 16 track with 60effects it has a master compresser, eq on every track and channel and here's the best part... it's only $800 bucks
so you will be getting something better with $200 buck left over which can buy a nice cd burner or a good mic.

for more info on this recorder go to...

www.vf16.com or www.fostex.com

rock on!

is it good for band demos? easy to use? does it sound full?

the br8 sorta sounds empty IMO

yea i think i'm going to go for the VF16, my friend says that he loves his, and I can probably try his out, and chances are i'm going to like it, because his friend has the BR8 and he says that he likes it 10 times better.

My 0.0000000000002 cents

...IMHO:

1) Had a bad experience with the Korgs, anyway it is really simple to use and it sounds great. But the HD that came with it broke within a month. No rude handling, no nothing. Just broke and I lost all the stuff I had inside 'em.

2) What happened to Roland VS's??? They died? They are harder to use, but they are great. You have loads of features you can use that others do not have. Maybe a used one...? A new one...?
VS1680? 1880? 880EX? take a look at those. I think they are worth it. I used to have the 880EX. Had it for a loooooong time.

Peace...

couldn't find em anywear power :(

i've heard great stuff about the Fostex VF-16, think that's the one my friend has.
