Digidesign MBox w/ ProTools LE

I can get this box that is USB to my laptop that comes with protools LE for $500 new. I was ganna get a compressor and a pre amp for a mic that may require phantom power (unless this thing has built in phantom power???). With 500 on this and 500 on a basic rack setup (compressor, anything else?), i could have a basic studio setup with a good quality sound........ right?

The Mbox has phantom power and the pres are pretty decent. You may want to just get an outboard compressor. It's a 2-channel unit, so make sure you don't foresee needing to track more than 2 tracks at a time or you may find the unit limiting.

There's things a outboard hardware compressor can do that S/W comps can't.. but if you are just getting started, ProToolsLE comes with a compressor plugin that's very usable.
