You're gonna get a million opinions, half of which have never laid hands on ProTools. Heres my take, quickly...
If you intend to use the Biggie ProTools later in life, learn on the Digi001. ProTools is definatly awesome on the audio side, its nice to work with. I HEAR the midi side is a little funky, never used Protools midi.
LE will be limited to 24 tracks, plenty for alot of people.
I plan to wait about a year and see what happens and if they change it any, and for them to start supporting AMD processors. It IS good software, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, but its not as full featured as say, Sonar, but it is more mature. Its also designed to run on a Mac, and the PC versions are still a tad buggy. You can also transfer your sessions to the biggie systems. This is a nice benefit if you want to do all the tracking and have an "expert" do the mix and mastering.
Speaking of Sonar, it looks like Sonar is gonna be the all-in-one solution in the near future. It just now got to version 1.0.1, so its still a tad buggy, but its got everything, and I'm betting the ranch it gets better and better til its totally top of the line. I like it alot so far, but its a tad screwy feeling at 1st. Well, it kinda still is. Check into it, though.
Peace,
Paul
