digi001 vs MOTU 828

so okay..

these are both eight channel A-D audio interfaces. I have a setup in mind where I'll be using these to go from and to an analog mixer. so, what is the difference? will the digi001 work with digital performer? will the motu work with protools? I'd like to think that an input into you computer would work with any application but I'm not sure. Also, do the pci cards use the same connectors to go to these boxes? i need help.
 
Well, the 001 will not work with DP (unless you run it in addition to PT), PT will not work with the 828, and the 828 has a FireWire interface, not PCI like the 001.

Actually the MOTU 2408 is a closer match with the Digi 001. It's really a tough call between those two. Some people wouldn't buy the 001 on principal. The 2408 doesn't (nor does any of MOTU's hardware) come with DP, which is a better app for hardcore MIDI. I've heard good stuff done on both so I think the sound quality is comparable.

What it really comes down to is which software you want to use and which company has better support. Like I said, tough call but I'm leaning toward the 001 myself. Part of that could be that I've been using PT Free and don't care what the gear snobs think. ;)

god. the "no intercompatablilty" thing is really obnoxious. I really like DP but since protools is what's being used in most commercial studios (at least in chicago), i feel like i should get that instead.

so are digi001's stackable? I could definitely forsee myself wanting more than 8 simultaneos inputs. it seems annoying that two of the channel inputs are in front. Are there other inputs for the mic pre channels in back or will I have to have ugly cables hanging off the front of the box?

should i buy the MOTU 2408mk3
or the RME multiface
or the SWISSONIC ad 24 mk2 with rme DIGI9636

you use any of this brands ?
