ok it's time to upgrade i wanna get the digi 002 but my only problem is that it only has 8 ins i know with the firewire you can send 30 something tracks to the computer simultaneously but what do i need to have to be able to record more than 8 tracks simultaneously. any suggestions would be great. thanks

With an A/D converter using the optical option you can get another 8. So 16 ins total.

with the 002r you can record a total of 18 inputs at the same time.
as far as conversion, you could go with a mytek adc or a lucid.

with those conversers you can also use them to clock the digi and it will clean up your sound.

any suggestions on a brand A/D converter?

For and A/D converter with mic preamps, check out the Presonus Digimax and Focusrite Octopre series.

there's also the m-audio octane and even cheaper the Behringer ADA8000

Alesis AI-3, if you have a mixert that you can use for preamps.

The Behringer ADA8000 works well. If you want higher end pre-amps look at the Focusrite Octopre series.

why? what does this mean?

High quality conveters have better clocks in them than the clock in the 002. That's not to say that the digi clock is bad- it isn't- but the ones mentioned are better (and much more expensive!)
