Which is a better choice between the Digi 002 and the Firepod. Both come with Le versions of the softwares (Pro Tools and Cubase.) Other than the price which would be teh best route to go with, advantages, disadvantages.

firepod has 8 inputs...is that the one you're talking about?? i think i'd go with presonus....no real opinions on advantages and disadvantages except for the fact that I just dont enjoy using protools

i dont really know anything about the firepod. but i can tell you that having pro tools isnt a bad thing. i have heard some REALLY great projects on a 002.

pro tools is also an industry standard (though others are creeping up on its domain) so it can never hurt to have experience with it. but like i said, i dont know anything about the firepod. it could smoke the 002. but something tells me the 002 would be a better investment.

thats hilarious... two contradicting posts in the same minute... what are you donna do?

i like pepsi and pizza with sausage onions and mushrooms...you? lol

yeah I was planning on going with the firepod because of the 8 preamps, I believe the digi 002 has 8 also but only 4 preamps. I guess the only reason I am considering the pro tools was that it is the "big dog." But other than experience using a "version" of it, I was wondering if i would really get the extra value using the limited version.

Since i got someone talking, do you guys use firewire then? I thought about doing the M-Audio delta 1010 and octane soundcard and preamps. Is firewire like the Presonus Firepod or digi 002 a better choice, price wise it would end up being about the same as the digi 002, but no software this route. That was why I was considering one of the first 2 options caseu I get an interface with mulitple INs, and a good software.??

is that what you use? Do you also use the cubase that comes with it?

002 has 4 preamps giving it a total of 8 analog ins, 8 ADAT optical I/Os and 2 S/PDIF. Total of 18 inputs.

Ok, forgive me if this is common knowledge, but what are (how used) ADAT and S/PDIF input. I am like an XLR, 1/4 guy right now.

they're digital inputs. The ADAT connections are left over from ADAT players. It's a digital signal over light pipe. S/PDIF (sony/phillips digital interface) is a system designed to carry PCM digital signals between domestic digital appliances such as CD players, DAT, DCC, MiniDisc etc.

in other words, you can bring digital gear into Pro Tools using these connections. And if you buy something like the Behringer ADA8000, it will convert 8 extra mic inputs into digital for you and you can send this into the 002. Plus, it's a pretty inexpensive unit.

Don't know, but I have Protools (LE) and work with a Digi-002R. I like it. I haven't worked with other interfaces so can't really compare, but it's easy to learn and if you're doing alot of live instrument tracking (as opposed to Midi and synths) I think it's pretty powerful.

i picture myself mostly tracking guitars, drums, vocals to start with (rock band stuff) but may evolve later to other stuff. That was why I was considering the Firepod by Presonus to get started and a Line 6 modeler. But if Pro Tools IS better I would like to get that. I think I would just get the rack mount version of the digi 002 to save some bucks vs, the hands on version.

better is a matter of opinion.
but i definitely think the layout of the program and where things are at, is pretty logically arranged. which may be the reason it's easy to learn for some people.

The biggest knock against Protools LE that I think has merit is it's handling of plug-in induced latency. Most other programs are capable of automatically adjusting for it, while Protools LE is not. That said, I haven't had a big problem with it myself, recording guitar/drum rock as well.
