Hello all...

Here's the deal: I'm looking to get a Pro Tools setup at home. My options are either get a Digi 002 rack or the M-Audio ProjectMix. I would like to have a control surface but can't swing the extra money for the regular 002. What would I be sacrificing if I went with the M-Audio unit as opposed to the 002R?

Thanks

Cons:
-not as many outputs
-software is missing some extra options that LE has (very minute stuff that you probably won't care about)
-doesn't work as a standalone mixer like the regular 002 does (at least I'm not aware of it being able to do that)
-different sounding pres and converters
-doesn't come with software

Pros:
-more input options (more pres)
-two headphone jacks
-word clock I/O
-front panel instrument input

Thanks a lot for your response! I'd love for u to expand on a few things if u don't mind...

M-Powered does not offer support for the DV toolkit, the Command 8 or Control 24 surfaces or the Digitranslator add-on. Again, something you probably will not care about.

not necessarily, but this is highly debatable. I've never heard the Project Mix, but it's a budget unit geared towards people in the home market who have a budget to watch. But then again, you'd have to A/B the two units to really compare the sound. There are many many people who are happy with the Project Mix and have no problems with the pres. If you get it and find you have a problem...buy external units (pres and converters).

No, it does not.

I recall reading on the DigiDesign site that you can use Command 8 with M-Powered. This is the quote from the DigiDesign site on M-Powered:

"Pro Tools M-Powered software offers the ultimate in mixing power and flexibility. Choose among a variety of professional plug-in effects to develop a mix. Take advantage of the most powerful automation in the industry to add motion to your music. Put more real-time plug-ins to work in your sessions via improved RTAS plug-in performance. Finally, connect a USB control surface such as Command|8 to your system and enjoy the familiar feel of a tactile faders and controls when mixing."

Then again, I could just be reading it wrong.

huh, they may have changed it to allow it to work. Thanks for the correction.

I do know that no ethernet based controllers work with M-Powered either, though.
