I think I heard that you can plug another firewire device into the DIGI 002, and it will register on your computer. Is this true? The reason why I ask is because I just baught a mac mini to use with my 002 rack, and it only has one firewire port. I need to connect not only the firewire 002, but also an external firewire hard drive. Can I do this?

Thanks

Digi recommends against this because if the 002 is turned off, any mounted firewire drives will lose their connection with the computer. and if this occurs, this can cause problems such as hardrive errors.
not to mention i'm always weary of daisy chaining a hard drive to a device that is passing audio data through it already. say your streaming 18 tracks out the firewire cable of the 002, to the CPU then back through the 002 to the hard drive for storage. I'm no computer whiz, but I worry about doing that.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I know what you mean about feeling weird about passing therough the 002. I figure I can just nload everything onto the mac hard drive which is 80 gigs and then back it up when Im done with it.

Does anyone know if you can add firewire to the mac mini?

Thanks,

Patrick

The Mac Mini comes with Firewire built in.

The whole reason the second FireWire port is there on the Digi 002 is to chain other FireWire devices like hard drives. I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, at least try it out and see if it works for you.

Digi recommends that you chain the 002 to the harddrives, not the other way around. The reason was mentioned by bennychico, if you turn off the 002 than the harddrive won't have time to do it's shut-off sequence and files can get corrupted.

I used to have the same problem on my laptop, and going 002 to harddrive to computer worked fine for me.

That makes sense, putting the HD between the 002R and the computer.
