All you have is now
I went to the Digi demo tonight at guitar center and I must say this digi 001 is impresive. Of course the 2 guys who demo'd it were aces, collectively they had around six years of experience working Pro-tools and about 2 months of experience with "protools LE" which comes bundled with the 001. Unfortunately for now this only comes in a Mac version with the Windows version alleged to be ready for release early in the next century e.g. January 2000(believe it when I see it) For under $1000 this is one very cool DAW. When the topic of 24 bit a/d was brought up I asked if it was a "linear" 24 bit converter and although he wasn't familiar with the term "linear" he was certain that the converters were actual 24 bit converters not enhanced 20 bit. Protools LE is an amazing and extremly powerful audio and midi mixer/editor that comes with a chunk of free plugins and an aray of aftermarket plugins that push this DAW to the top of the pack. According to digidesigns Brian Carter (This guy is one talented tech and musician) with a 8 line light pipe extension coming from the internal PCI cards Optical you can record up to 18 audio tracks simultaneously. I believe that in itself is unprecedented. Basically this was a well done presentation and with
that said also comes the fact that what I saw tonight was what is possible from this system
under the best set up conditions. How easily it will be for the average joe to recreate the ease and simplicity demonstrated is still unknown. Digi 001 aside the "protools LE" is butt kicking hot and I plan on getting a copy as soon as I can.You can order a "free" video from digi at 888 707 3444 or check out the 001 site at WWW.digi001.com
