I am thinking about purchasing the Digi 001, does anyone have any Pro/cons about it

Great system with everything you need right out of the box.

Biggest problem IMO is very limited software choices. The software that comes with it,Pro Tools LE, is supposed to be awesome for audio but pretty limited for MIDI. Last I heard they were working on making it compatible w/ Logic, which would add all the MIDI stuff Pro Tools is missing. Even if they have, there's the still the question of how well it's been integrated. They have a great users' forum dedicated to 001, where I'm sure this is covered.

Also, lots of other cards, Delta, Aardvark, etc., have better sound quality, assuming you believe in numbers. Check the specs.

18 ins plus 2 mic pres plus protools le software. Thats alot for less than $800 us. For what you get it's well worth it.

Im kinda curious about the Digi001 myself.....How do the 2 onboard preamps sound for starters????

They are focusrite I do belive. Pretty average. IMHO better than mackies. They aren't like the high end focusrite, but still useable

I too am thinking about getting the Digi001 for PC. One of the draws is the superior audio editing of Pro Tools/Digi001 that I have been hearing about... reports of seamless cuts and pastes, etc.

hey wc-- thanks for the tip about the focusrite pres. Amazing how one automatically assumes any Focusrite has to be great! In a similar vein, I often ponder the quality of the apogee cards for the Yamaha AW4416. Or the Lexicon reverb effects software plug-ins.

Does anyone know if there a grid anywhere that compares features/sound of the higher end soundcards?

gracias

I'm tracking right now in Digi-001. I find the audio to be very good. The pre's are ok. I like my Mackie 24-8 better. The editing is Incredible. I am doing things I didn't know was possible, before.

If your interested, I tell you anything I have seen, heard, or learned. I am really enjoying it.

I started a thread under Recording Techniques called "Who is using Digi-001". There are a lot of details if desired.

Hey RW!!! On the brink of a decision here. Frankly, Digi001 is lookin' pretty good. I like what I have been hearing about the editing.

Ive heard that with PT/Digi001 you are stopped from using other programs. For instance, I heard about "fruity loops" for fake drums. Can I use this with PT/Digi001?

oh yeah-- one more

I don't think this even will matter much in my final decision, but I am just curious-- can your setup do 96khz? No biggie if not.

muchas gracias!

I don't believe it goes up to 96htz. Digidesign has a software called Virus that can make integrated loops. Costs too much for me. I am thinking of using Acid and syncing my performance to it...backwards.

I have a demo song that came with my Digi that has 3 loops from virus in it. They sound good. Guitar center told me that it can produce loops that sync up with the timing in the digi software which is a cool thing.

gnarled -- thanks for the site

Thanks. The site was very helpful in terms of learning how to measure a soundcard's attributes!! Sorry it took so long for me to check it out.

OMG...

I just found what seems to be the best loop/synth virtual hardware. I was at Mars checking out Fruity Loops and Acid ( I can't afford Virus...795.00) and I was introduced to reason.

Reason is the most flexible and most powerful loop software out. It also has analog synth modes and all kinds of rack gear.

If you want to do loops or synth stuff...check it out. 299.00
