I'm relatively new to both computers (especially Macs) and digital recording so I must be overlooking something very basic with my PowerMac G4/Protools Digi 001. Here's my question: After laying down drum tracks with my Alesis SR 16, I now want to record a bass track to go with the drums. On the mix screen, after I "arm" the bass track for recording I hear it through the monitors and headphones just fine. But when I start the playback of the MIDI drum tracks so that I can monitor them while recording the bass, I no longer hear the bass. What am I doing wrong or overlooking? Thank you in advance.

Are you recording the audio signal from the SR16 or just recording midi?

If your bass track is armed and you can hear the bass until you press play the reason is simple...

You are just playing back what you recorded... and if you recorded nothing on the bass track yet, you are going to hear nothing...

You can't hear a "live " instrument through a track when the same track is playing back

You still have to press record to start recording even if the record button on a track is armed... so make sure you are hitting record... and I guarantee you will hear your bass..

1. Arm track... (hearing bass)...

Get ready to record........

2. Press REC (Not play) and away you go!...
