I'm new to computer recording and relatively new to computers. However, I recently purchased a Digi 001 bundle for my Compaq 5838 (Windows 98 2nd Ed.). I had 128 of RAM and added another 128RAM for 256 RAM. Per the recommendations of the salesperson/tech, I also purchased a Glyph/IBM Deskstar 40GV, 7200 RPM ATA Ultra (I think that's all the numbers etc.) hard drive. According to the instructions printed on the original HD currently in the computer, I'm supposed to jumper #'s 5 and 6 to make it the master. I'm not sure which pins are numbers 5 and 6, so I can't get the computer to boot with just the original HD installed (I can't remember how it was jumpered before I attempted to install the additional HD...the Glyph/IBM). I've tried the jumper combinations listed on the Glyph/IBM HD to make the original HD the master and the Glyph/IBM the slave to no avail. The computer just won't boot. I've even tried the jumper combinations for 15 and 16 head .
So I guess my main 3 questions are: 1. How do I jumper my original HD (Oh yeah, it's a Western Digital 170AA) so my computer will boot with it alone installed? 2. How do I jumper both so the original is the master and the new HD (Glyph/IBM) is the slave? and 3., Do I use the 15 head or 16 head jumper combination?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of lost at this point. Thanks in advance!

Tom
