hey guys ... okay, so I've been surfing the web and looking at everything I can point my browser to about home recording. Why? Because one, I think it's pretty cool and two, because I haven't the foggiest notion about any of this stuff! I guess every guru has to start from somewhere so I asked you, oh wise ones (grin), when it comes to software, which one do you recommend?
I've come across CakeWalk, sound forge, and am rather interesed in ProTools. It would probably help to tell you what I'm going to be doing huh? I want to set up a studio for music (bad analogy but kind of like the darkside of the moon as well as stuff like Enigma) and also be able to have analog equipment (ie electric bass and guitar) for recording/editing/mixing/whatever I can play with on the computer.
The computer I have is a Pentium III 600, with a 20Gig HD, and factory soundcard (it's a gateway computer if that helps) with 128 RAM. I'm also getting (what? there's more? hehehe) a Mac G4 but I don't know what options I'll be getting on it yet. ooh! Here's another question... which is better? the Mac or the PC for recording/editing/mixing/etc? I've heard some of my musician friends swear by their macs but which one is the best man (or machine rather) for the job? Thanks in advance! any response is definitely greatly appreciated.
