i just got an audio buddy, is there any reason why if i added a dmp3 later and wanted to use the two together for micing drums bad things could happen?

any input appreciated.

Do NOT, I repeat, Do NOT listen to track rat. Something very BAD will surely happen. Beware!

No, no, really. It will be fine. TRUST ME.

Track Rat's the dev-il..... he's ev-il, and you shouldn't listen to him.... he really wants you to use the 2 pres together and then your soul will be his....

Trust me.....!

I was using my mixer for drums with no problems. My life was just fine. But, one day, I made the mistake of using a Blue Tube to mic a snare along with my mixer pres. Even used reverb with the Blue Tube. My life hasn't been worth living since, I have to say. Why me? Why did I have to do that?! What came over me? I should have listened to Rodney. He told me not to do it. But I didn't listen.. I didn't listen.....

umm. i wasnt so much reffering to the state of my eternal soul... more like... will it sound okay?

If you have a good drum set, 4 good mics that are well-placed, four good mic cables, a room that isn't too clashy and a good recorder, it should sound just fine. Trust me. :D Watch for phasing trouble among the mics. Different preamps will cause no trouble 'tall and will probably not even jeopardize your soul. Sorry for having a bit of fun at your expense, but the question sort of begged for it. Please forgive me and record some good drum tracks.

the one place where it probably does make things easier to have a stereo pair of the same mics going into the same preamps is on the overheads. it's easier to maintain a stable stereo image, but i've seen some people use different mics and pres on each overhead and still get good results. It's just a little trickier...

Mixing preamps on different parts of the kit is done all the time - probably more often than using 8-10 tracks of the same preamp. Partly because most studios don't have 8-10 of the same preamps unless they are using the pres in their console.

Unless it's one of them studios we all envy with 24 channels of racked API. :)

i see, so basically besides doing a stereo pair, it doesnt matter? cool.

use a good clean dual channel pre for the overheads, and then put something a bit more dirty on the kick and the snare.

heaven.
