I just got a matched pair of X-Q's since I haven't experimented with cello and acoustic guitar tracks in stereo yet. I've tried browsing naiant's website for audio samples of the X-M, but came up empty. Can anyone who has both comments on which imparts more of a warmer, fuller quality?

I'm sure if you email mshilarious, the manufacturer of these mics, he'd be glad to tell you.

Just looking at the specs, I don't think you'd see a big difference. I'm willing to be the capsule is the same on both. The only major benefit I see to the X-M is the flexibility of transformer/active output and a little less of a bump above 10K. I'm considering an X-Q for a room mic myself. If you end up grabbing an X-M be sure to let us know how it works out!

Oh okay, thanks. Are omni's best used as room mics and not particularly good for close-miking?

In fact, Omni's can be BETTER for close miking - yup, better.

Since there is no proximity effect you can get right up on the instrument so that the direct sound outweighs the room sound.

Check the FAQ section on the Naiant site - it explains this in a bit more detail:)

Oh, wow, thanks for that info. That makes me even more happy I bought some Naiants. :)
