gimmi your mic!
hi --

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Sennheiser 441-N and 441-U? I guess the "U" is the current product line, but how do they differ? Thanxxx

441 U is older. 441 II is the current model. Maybe N is the black version??

Chessrock or Tubedude? Anybody know?

i just got a 441-N today in the mail.

my guess is that the N indicates that it has a funky connector on it. not XLR, but that three pin thing with the screw in ring. DIN? looks like the one i have on my beyer m260n...

here we go:

"Klein Tuchel (DIN 41524)

This connector is still in production so supply is ensured. It is a screw locking 3 pin version of the type used for MIDI and Hi-Fi. Suitable for use with Sennheiser MD421-N and MD441-N, AKG microphones with -C suffix, older Beyer M160, M201, etc. "

hi Eeldip --

that might it! So how do you like your 441-N you got today? I will get mine next week :-) (with adapter from the DIN plug to the XLR)

according to the Sennheiser web site the "U" is the current version.

8thstreet only named their package "441 II". The description says: "Sennheiser MD 441II : The MD 441 U is a microphone ... includes: 1 MD 441 U , 1 microphone clamp MZQ 441"

so far so good with the 441,

man it looks good. gotta love german industrial design. the clip is scary though, like most sennheiser clips. very strong looking metal connected to very attractive and weak looking plastic.

i tested it on my voice, and found it to be very smooth sounding- basically what you would expect- a classy dynamic. the built in low cuts seem pretty useful for voice or guitar stuff.

as far as sound, i ran it against my 57 and oktava 319- it sounded much flatter than the 57, and much less boxy, and yet still had a nice sort of constrained dynamic mic sound to it, not spitty at all. very controlled sounding. the rejection on it is incredible. i moved my mouth away from it unintentionally during tracking, and when i played it back the first thing i thought was that the preamp or the cord failed. the signal just dropped to almost nothing.

the oktava was brighter, airier. sounded much less "rock" and much more "r+b". looking at the specs of the two mics, i would expect a pretty similar amount of high end from the sennheiser, which makes me suspect that it has lost a bit of response in the 30 some odd years it has been around. hard to tell though, it could also be that it has more proximity effect... i'll figure it out later.

anyway, i am sure you will be happy with it...
