std MP3 format, it seems to work on all 4 of my pc's.........sorry, dont know what the problem could be.

It's playing for me right now.
Sorry - I don't like the ultra fast super click bass drum - it very distracting & too loud.
The guitars probably sound great but they are over powered by the bass drum.
the bass guitar tone is good - proggy hi growl is good.
Does the mixer happen to be the drummer or drum programmer - there seem to be a "let there be drums" bias in the mix.
Please, pull them back & let some of the other instruments shine.

this is a pretty sweet song, man--me LOVES the prog metal!

i'm with rayc on the kick drum--it has a rather unpleasant "splat" or "plop" sound to it. it's pretty weird, because while it has lots of definition, it seems to have a lot of "mud" content. did you compress the kick? it sounds like you got it to slam w/ a compressor but didn't eq it before compressing. if that's the case, i'd definitely carve out some low mids (around 350-550 hz), and basically experiment w/ other pre-comp eq and see where it gets you. idk, i'm kinda guessing at your process here.

anyway, i really dig the bass and guitar tones, but i also agree w/ rayc that the drums as a whole need to get tucked back a bit.

great arrangement and performance, though--i'd love to hear a slammin' mix of this tune. :)

Unfortunatly, the drums were recorded on 8-track ADAT and mixed to DAT about 10 years ago. The original tracks were recorded over cuz w couldnt afford to buy more tapes at $27 a peice. At this point, only the stereo mix of the drums are all I have unless I re-record them. The bass was recorded at the same time but on its own track. The project fell apart and the tracks just sat until recently the guitars were recorded on DAW (ADAT's long gone). For the past 10 years, I have listened to the drum/bass mix which is why it sounds drum heavy (and yes, I am the drummer/mixer). Now that there are guits added, its like a whole new song for me and this is the first mix. I am gonna post this after a better mix in hopes to find someone to write/record vox for it. I hope to get a decent drum mix with what I've got so I dont have to redo them. Thanks for the opinions......any more?

yeah, bummer dude. with a performance like that, i'd definitely not want to re-track it either.

well, you could try to eq some low mids out of the stereo mix and see how badly it affects the rest of the kit. i'd just sweep the hell out of everything and see if you can't clean it up a bit. just a thought. good luck remixing! :)

I'll try it, thanks.

Song's great, but that kick is ruining it IMHO....:o
Any way you can substitute it with a sample? The rest of the kit sounds pretty good. Guitars lack a little bit of brightness and that makes them sound distant from the rest. Bass is giving it a nice bottom....Hope to hear a voice on this, so keep working on it!

Joe :):)

nice man....

i agree sounds like you need to remix the guitar back in with just a little boost...
it seems to get lost in the traffic.....
id suggest slap a little eq on that bad boy and throw it back in the pot

but thats just my two cents

The drums sound awesome except for that kick. It sounds like you couldn't find your kick drums and decided to hit a plastic barrel.

The guitar could use a little more high end. It sounds a little muddy.

Freaking tight performance though. Good sound bass tones. Nice and big sound so far.

If you can't do anything about that kick I would try to sample it.

Nice work overall tho!

I am not able to sample the kick, plz read post #6. Thanks.

You already said you only have stereo drums. You could try eq'ing down the kick range and see if it sounds ok. Of course, it might mess with some heavy toms.

The guitar and bass tone are rocking. The playing very super. Very impressive. Sounds nice. The musical composition is also very cool.
