im in need of a new computer and im curious if you bought yours or if you built it yourself. if you bought it, what did you buy. thanxxxx

I built my desktop, an AMD 1800+ with 512mb RAM and (2) 40gig 7200 HD's.

I like the control and non proprietary nature of homebuilt PCs.

Emeric (from this site) built mine for me...... P4, 1.7 mHz, 512 MB ram, 2 7200 rpm 20 gig drives.... a very nice machine...!

Built my own computers for the last 6 years, but bought a assembled vprMatrix system this summer at Best Buy.

The system uses all quality components (unlike some other big name brands) and the price was good enough for me not to deal with the hassle of going around and buying what I needed myself.

i just finished putting together a new DAW...2.4G Intel and virtually silent (big Rackmount case and Zalman cooler helped this out)

I would suggest, if you feel comfortable doing it yourself, you will be able to better ensure stability, save some $$, and learn something along the way.

Bought my current one (dude, I’ve got a Dell) :D

I will probably build my next one if I ever get enough $$$

i built mine. just chiming in. it really is very easy to do.

built mine too. . . definately the best way to go for audio recording.

same here -- built my last three computers. cheaper parts, plus you get to customize every part of it. easy to do and chicks dig it (ok, no, not really...) :p

Last time I bought built up was in 1987 (286 :D). After that, I built (customize) myself... ;)

built. you get exactly what you want, nothing more, nothing less.
parts are made easy to install thesedays anyways

Built the last three, Helped a few others build their own. I use Newegg.com to order from. Be warned they have ZERO tech support:( , so make sure you do your research.

I've built all mine, along with about a bazillion others, since I've been in PC-related jobs for years.

It's not hard to do, unless you get that rare situatuion with a flaky motherboard or componant. In that case some commen sense roubleshooting will solve all but the most stuborn problems.

Built every computer I have owned since 1984, cept for my company laptop and a compaq transportable that I used for sequencing back in the 80's. Built hundreds for others, Maybe I will buy one already built for a change some day.....Nah.....

Built it - cost me under $1100. Turn-key like this would have been $2200 easy.

>Emeric (from this site) built mine for me......

DITTO!!!

and:

DITTO!!!

P2.0: Asus MB/ 40GB/80GB 7200 RPM Seagate drives with 80 in removeable bay.
1GB DDR RAM
CDRW/NIC/USB 2/Firewire

And (my suggestion) a very cool bulletproof rack mount case.

Ive got a bonus coming up in my next couple o paychecks....I may build a new dual athlon

Made by Whyte Ice aka Brian:

OS Windows XP
PSU Allied 400w
CPU AMD Athlon XP 2000+
HSF Volcano 9 w/ Arctic Silver 3
RAM RAM 384mb DDR PC2100
HDs 2x Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm
CD-RW Lite-On 40x12x48x
MOBO MSI KT3 Ultra
SoundCard Delta 44
DVD Lite-On LTD-166S
Video Albatron GeForce4 Ti4200P (4109)
NIC Linksys 10/100 NC100v2
Monitor 17" Samsung SyncMaster 763MB

I need a memory upgrade and a second monitor and I should be happy for a while.

Built mine too....1700 Athlon 512mb ram 40gig hdd, 64 mb Geforce2......but if i was gonna buy one i would really consider Dell (and i say that as some that works for em)

Built mine.
P4, 2 100gig 7200 rpm HD's, a gig'o ram, dual monitors, 75 gig External firewire HD back-up, CDRW I think the processor is 1.8 or 2.1 GHz, ASUSP4 mobo, RME 96/52 sound card, Win XP Pro, Total dedicated DAW, ROCK Solid!

Building your own is the only way to go. It's going to cost you a lot more than the $699 DELL Special, but you'll end up with a WAY better machine.
It's not difficult to do, if you understand what components make up a PC; just read the directions where you need to and put it together.

Your O/S and your recording software is all you should have on it, save and except of course the necessary drivers. Retail PC's come loaded with so much crap on them that they are practically rendered useless for serious recording work.
