Sorry to bore you with this - I'm sure it's been asked before...

Anybody know of absolutely free and stunning software that I can use for doing diagrams of my studio for the purpose of posting in this illustrious forum? Be careful how you answer, or you may soon be viewing diagrams of yet another room roughly the shape of a shoe box.

For really simple things (no precision required) I use Paint that's included in Windows - For REAL drawings, I use an old DOS-based CAD program that was bought by Autodesk (Autocad) to eliminate the cheap competition. Autodesk now puts out a version called QuickCad, it runs about $60 at office supply places. It allows precision drawing, is compatible with the high priced Autocad files, and will export JPG files for places like this. Turbocad runs about the same price, but unless they've changed in the last 6 months it will NOT export JPG files.

John Sayers and a lot of our members use Smartdraw - the trial version is free, but only lasts a month or two then dies. Then it costs about the same as the other two I mentioned.

I don't know of any FREE programs that will do what you need for serious scaled and angled drawings... Steve

Okay, I've got Paint LOL. Let's see what I can come up with.

Piffle. Paint in Win98 only does bitmaps that are too big to upload here.

Don't think I've seen a version of Paint that won't let you save different formats - have you tried clicking the file/Save As, then clicking the arrow next to the file name, and you should see a drop-down list of file types you can save as - if so, choose jpg or tif and check the file size after. It should be quite a bit smaller... Steve

Am I right in assuming that version has no strech or skew properties. If it is still to big to change then sometimes I will change the size of the picture with the stretch skew feature. Then save it again that's my .02 cents

No, I tried that. When I do a Save As, the dropdown choices include only four options in mine, and they're all bitmaps.
