So I've got everything loaded finally and working, hearing the sounds and a keyboard hooked up to the M-Audio Uno MIDI Interface - that works too.

Question, is there a way you can tell PTLE what keys should trigger what drum? My cheap pathetic Casio keyboard triggers everything in such an unorganized fashion, making it impossible to get some basic beats down for recording.

Also, is what comes in the tutorial *THE* ideal setup that should be used? Any more info or documentation on this?

Thanks!

We all started where you are - and I wish I had a nice forum like this one to link me up to useful articles on the web about midi basics when I was first starting...

Here are the two articles I recommend you start by reading - part one and part two. They're ten years old now, but midi and it's basic principles haven't changed in 20+ years, so there's nothing in these articles that's outdated.

Hey thanks! I actually had read those when browsing through this forum a few months ago, I think because you had recommended them to someone else.

I ended up finding how to map the keys late last night, turns out it's not a Pro Tools thing at all and the fact that it was in the DFHS manual of all places made me feel like a real moron.

So, more research today. Maybe tonight I'll actually get a few measures down! Still have a million questions tho...

Bring 'em on!

And most of the answers are right!
