More top engineering work Lee.
How much of the guitar tone is GTR & amp, how much is outboard FX & finally how much digital development?
The only real nit is that the flow for each groove gets cut up. On 1st listen it's like 5 ideas fighting for dominance.

DUDE LEE! I love your guitar, super crunchy. What's your guitar amp and effects? I always wanted to be my guitar sound like that DUDE. I'm trying to experiment my Guitar Rig to sound just really like that but it seems that I have no luck yet.

Is that a screamer or just a regular distortion?

thanks ray and a very good observation there. I think the different grooves that comes up has been a tricky part to work out on this one. I'll be thinking out to bridge those parts better throughout the week. Always a work in progress! :D

In terms of the guitar amp, you're gonna kill me when I say it. It's a POD 2.0 I carry with me all the time direct into the preamp. Very simple setup. It has the tones I love to work with, so I just plug and record.

As for the rest of the mix, beleive it or not, those are all the original sounds. Really basic uncomplex mix. No sound replacement on drums (and yes that's an actual drummer), guitars and bass probably no more than a compressor and EQ.

So in the end we had about 9 drum tracks, a bass DI track, about 6 guitar tracks, and another 6 vocal tracks.

I did edit the groove of drums to conform to the grid before I started tracking everything else. But that's a very case to case basis.

Thanks brotha :D

Well like I was telling Ray, I've been using the Line 6 POD on this one and going direct. I think it does great when I can't get to some kind of vintage fender or marshall head. Or mesa boogie stuff.

If I remember correctly, I think I was using a dual rectifer setting. After that it was just a matter of EQing, compression and having just the right amount of drive. Also, tuning perfectly for the individual guitar does amazing things for the sound.

Nice sounds....pretty funky tune. I like the tones...guitar and bass fit really well in this song. Good drums. It's s fun listen.

Very cool! sounds good as always:D Got the Cake thing going again.
Only thing I would do is automate the word "need" in the choruses so that the singnal pulls down a db or 2 as the word goes on into the last half.
Gets a bit harsh there. Dances on harshness in other spots of the song, but only at loud volumes.

Need to edit out the hum in the break at about 1:17 too ;)
Seems to be at about 1 or 2 oclock.

Awsome job as always! If you ever have any extra talant you're not using, send it my way ;)

F.S.

Edit: **** the quote from Dogman is there for no other reason than that I love quoting Dogman***** Actually I fear I've slipped a cog

Very nice, qualtiy production and creative stuff.

Indeed, a good observation and spot on. More continuity would really help the song as a whole. Excellent stuff. :)

Kids these days with there new fangled jibber jabber woppity bomp music!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Seriously though, the style is a bit of an aquired taste. Seems like more stuff these days uses the light switch type style changes in the middle of the songs. It is an attention getter with out a doubt. Sometimes it flys for me other times not so much.

I personnally did not have any issue with this song using it.
Not the style of music I would buy but plenty would.

My nephiew also says Screamo is the wave of the future  :o :D

Thanks for the very kind words guys!

Hey FS, good word on the automation during the chorus, I'll be remembering that on the touch up later tonight.

I think the harshness is turning out to be more of a mastering issue, there was a subtle high shelf boost that probably can do without. I could pick that out better today with fresh ears.

Byt yeah, just fire a message my way whenever you want. I always like to expand horizons. And that goes for the rest of the fellas, too.

David, thanks for the extra set of ears and for the additional critque notes along with Ray. It helps me take in pointers from the classical end of things, it helps in improving the focus.

It's kina funny, cause when I study tunes to help improve on my rock theory, I drift more into classical and genres furthest away.

I guess because it's not common to see truly advance musical theory in rock (at least not anymore anyway).
