Hi,

I have sent a mail to Syntrillium on this but they seem to either be misunderstanding my request or being difficult.

I am writing a database for my music projects. Part of the system will include details for all the presets I use for the various effects on each track. Now obviously this can be a lot of info and would be a drag to have to write in each time, so I want to find out where this info is stored and use sofware to read it out and put it into the database - cool huh?

Problem: Syntrillium keep telling me that all presets are stored in cool.ini. While I can fin many of theme there I can't find ones I have created in for example Revalver, Ozone or any of the plugins I got with Sonic Foundry. I tried explaining this to Syntrillium but the keep insisting!

I looked in som other files and found some of the names in clear text i a ".dat" file that I couldn't otherwise read (probably in Hex I suppose). Is there anyone out there who can shed any light on this for me?

Thanks in advance

If I solve this and the system is any good I will give it away to anyone who wants it. ;)

The DX/VST Plugin Presets won't be stored in the Cool.ini file but the Cool Edit Transform Presets will.

To learn more about how to backup DX/VST presets, read this.

Thanks Whyte Ice,

That thread gives the same response as I got from Syntrillium. They don't seem to want to tell me about that .DAT file.

It looks to me like all the preset ARE stored somewhere in the coolpro directory as the files in the directories for my various plugins don't get updated, and as I said my search finds the preset names in the AMIXFM.DAT file.

As you say the CEP transforms are in cool.ini, but why won't Syntrillium tell me about the others?

Well I doubt Syntrillium knows where DX/VST plugin presets are stored for each individual DX/VST plugin. Since Syntrillium doesn't create these DX/VST plugins, they probably don't know where the information is stored.

With alot of my Direct X Plugins, I have found the presets to be in the Plugins folder (the folder where you installed the plugin) and in the Windows directory. I don't know where my VST plugins go so I just write them down in a Notepad file.

now, I dont know where these files are... but maybe I know how to find them.

Make a preset. Note the exact time. wait one minute. Close CEP.

now go see what files were updated at the time you made the preset.

I found a DAT file in the Cool Edit folder called Amixfm.dat and I found alot of my other presets in there as well. So thats where most of them have been hiding.

Hi Whyte Ice,

Yeah we have identified that .dat file, but Syntrillium won't admit that the presets are in there. I have joined the thread you refered me to at Syntrillium and we have quite an active discussion going. I am hoping Synrillium will eventually respond! If you take a look at the thread you will see I have been talking to iZotope and they have found the same results - and Syntrillium told them that the presets were in cool.ini as well!

MarkST,

Yea, I've been following the discussion and I even posted, under a different handle than this stupid name I have here.

Since it sounds like your a CEP fan, you should check out Audio Forums.

Hi Whyte Ice

I am a member there with a different handle :) - it's where I started learning about digital recording. I haven't been in lately as it seemed to die out a lot when Syntrillium started their own forum. Maybe I should check it out again!

I only use CEP really- plus Audio Compositor to convert midi to wav.

Keep truckin'
