Hi,

I'm now planning the Constructing a project studio in a shed. been studying the SAE stoof.. a few questions, Just trying to soundproof it first and worry about accoustic treatment later bad idea?

What are bessa blocks?

Is the height of the room important?
-which is better higher or lower?

Is the shape of the ceiling important is a flat ceiling important? or can it be triangular?

With the floating floor, What would be the cheapest type of wood you could get away with using with the surface pannels?
-How do you make attatch the insulation pannels of semi rigid to the pannels as shown in the diagram? [staple? glue? (they seem to just be suspended above the original floor magically)]

What is Gypsium where can i get it from and how much does it cost? If costly Are there any more cost efficient Alternatives? [PBC]
-Plasterboard/Jiprock is a bad idea?

What is [are] Neoprine [pads] where can i get [them] from and how much do they cost? If costly Are there any more cost efficient Alternatives?

Regards, Kym.

ps. the attatchment is a picture of the naked shed. there's more pictures of the window behind the point where the picture was taken from and the door that ill post later.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's an aussie term for concrete block. Although, I just noticed that you're from down under so ... maybe not. ?

The bigger the volume of the room, the better sound waves will be able to develop. So, a higher ceiling would be better.

Again with the room volume ... a vaulted ceiling would be good ... but from what I've read could possibly present some bass problems that will need to be dealt with.

I think it's the same thing ... Gypsum/Plasterboard/Drywall/etc.

Here's an example of something I think is similar to what you're talking about --> U-Boats
I'm sure there are other alternatives out there, but can't think of them offhand.

hope that helps
nice shed ... that should make a fine studio :)

Hey

Thanks for that.

Can anyone else help with the remaining unanswered question or put just put in their 2c?

I just looked up that u boat stuff, and apparently chopping up horse matts is a good alternative to paying hundreds of beans for auralex u boats. This is on the thread here, and it sounds like a good idea if its gonna help anyone else. Or maybe someone would like to comfirm the authenticity of this claim. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/acoustics/message/1850.

Thanks,

Kym.

Thanks again, but..

Hey thanks John, your link was most informative.

Now there is a new issue, we want to float the floor but from the pics you can see those beams are already pretty low, about 205cm. so should we gut them out and go for a flat roof or drill down through the foundations and jackhammer those out and put down ones which lay lower down?
any ideas/ sugestions guys?

Thanks, Kym

from the picture it appears that the beams (blue?) are part of the truss that holds the roof up. Why do you feel you need to float a floor? I would have though that an internal wall and ceiling would give enough isolation.

cheers
john

I read at that SAE site that the floating floor was the only way to stop the bass escapen into my neighbours houses, which is very very important, cause the neighbours aren't friendly, and they also need to not know about what exactly is stored in there, because they are also sheisty.
