SOUND DIAGNOSIS

Wanted: Soundcard that meets my purposes!

I am a singer/songwriter with the need to have the ability to simultaneously record a stereo signal from my Kurzweil synth... and a signal from a LD condenser into my Cool Edit pro multitrack software.(Midi will not be an issue..straight audio here) Having the ability to be able to monitor via headphones is a MUST, as I am not going to be using amplification on my keyboard (no bleeding please) and I am going to be singing into my LD condenser mic at the same time as I play. I need to hear the synth for sure! (Keyboard noise is VERY minimal, thankfully) I have been given a few suggestions from retailers, but I seek a "higher authority", namely YOU GUYS. Aardvard LX6 came up, so did Delta 44's and 66's, but there is no provision for monitoring with the Delta's, unless I add-on a headphone amplification unit and so on. Gina's have only 2 inputs, and Layla's are past my expenditure point. I really need help here. I always strive to get the right tool for the job, and have been successful to this point. I just need some help here, or perhaps one of you can refer me to someone in the business who may be able to assist me. Thanks in advance, Lee

If you don't need to track entire bands or mic up an entire drum kit, you can't go wrong with a Delta 44. 4 in/outs should be all you need.

Rock on.

Hey Fats, I need to be able to monitor via headphones when I am "creating". That's a no-can-do with the delta unless you add on a headphone amplifier and i really don't wan't to add anything in the signal chain that I don't have to. thanks all the same, friend! ---Lee

The Delta/OMNI Studio package gives you a headphone jack. Also, there's their new FireWire Delta 410 if you have a Firewire card in your box.

Thanks Al. I am going to revisit that OMNI package now that my head has sufficiently stopped spinning around. I was hoping you chimed in. I DO read previous threads and appreciate you imparting your knowledge, dude! ---Lee

Do you have a preamp for your mic? If not you could get yourself a small mixer with built in pres and a headphone out

Yes! I have a JOEMEEK V3CQ. I am covered. --Lee

Another vote for the Delta Omni/66 package. It does include two preamps, which are of the clean variety and would be a nice contrast with the Joemeek. And you have two headphone outs, so if you ever record with another musician you both can monitor at the same time. The Omni really offers lots of options in terms of routing.

Have you looked into the Terratec line?

Check out the DMX 6Fire......

pretty versatile recording system.

Terratec is being considered for sure. Great rep they have but I have read some negative things about customer service. Thanks for the suggestion! ---Lee
