I'm building a studio. Here's my plan.

http://classes.berklee.edu/jchase/STUDIO_PROGRESS/

look at the file that says Studio Plan.jpg

the Studio interior 5_11.jpg is the most recent pic of the inside so far.

we're almost ready to begin framing the partitioning, so this is my last chance to fix any screw-ups. The building is roughly 25 x 50

thanks for any input.

What are you going to use the studio for?

It looks like a mid-level professional studio. What is the ceiling height? What are your sound proofing needs?

Looking good jon - nice layout. so what are you going to do with the triangle at the rear of the control room??

hey your carpenters are clean and neat :):)

cheers
John

The rear of the Control room is going to be a machine room. I'm hoping it will function as a bass trap, and i'm also crossing my fingers about the acoutstic properties of the room shape. I'm just shooting in the dark with my plan.

I've put a layer of 1/2" celotex on top of the existing interior wall, then 1/2" drywall. Now I'm ready to partition, which will start basically a new building inside the existing one, leaving an inch or so of space betweent ehexisting wall and the new partitions.

For the floors i'm planning on floating them separately in each room. my plan is ripping 2x4's and placing the 2x2's on rubber, neoprene, (something, not sure yet) for vibration isolation. then 3/4 plywood, then hardwood floors.

where does one get neoprene for this purpose?

I've presently got a busy home studio, bands, mastering, just about everyting you could imagine in a small space, and need to get into a larger facility, plus i need to have space in order to have a few bodies to help with my load.

Yeah, my building, my carpenty, my cleaning! :)

and there's quite a bit of street traffic in front of the building, so soundproofing is extremely important.

Howdy Jonothon - nice to see someone on this board that is within spitting distance :) I'm just down the road in Westford. Your design looks great! Keep us updated on your progress.

I am just about at the same point in the process as you... I have a little more plumbing (moving pipes) and some ventilation to do then I'll begin framing.

I ended up getting some rubber "anti-fatigue" mats from Home Depot that I plan on cutting into 2"x2" pucks for isolation.

Cheers
Kevin.

hi Kevin. you ARE close, probably 15-20 minutes away. wondering if we know each other. at the very least, i'm sure we must have friends/acquaintences in common.

Is this in your home, or are you building a commercial facility?

on my way to HomeDepot shortly for more studs, while i'm there, i'll look for the "anti-fatigue" product you mentioned

Jonothon - It is my home... but potentially more as things come together.

I got the mats at HD in Nashua, but they are funny on stuff like that. Often they will have a one shot stocking of an item then you never see it again.

Kevin.

Jonothan, I'm having trouble downloading your pic too. Maybe you can attach it to a post.
BTW, you 495 guys aren't too far from me either. I'm posting from work in Danvers.

try this link to the most recent pic of the inside:

thanks for looking.

this is a week later, we'd covered the celotex with drywall, and chalked out the partitioning on the floor.

here's the exterior:
