Whats the general consensus on demo production?

How greatly produced do your demos have to be to get sold and be taken seriously?

Demos are not made to be sold but for promo reasons. Noone expects a demo to sound like it came from a top notch studio, just for a reasonalbe presentation of what a band sounds like so they can decide if they want to hire you or not.
If you are considering selling cds then they will HAVE to sound professional or you wont be able to compete with professional sounding recordings. You can make a home cd that is good enough for selling.
