Don't stare at the eye.
Here's a few mixes for a Demo set/EP I tracked and mixed for a high school aged band that found me through a friend.

Ignore the personal message to the band--this is the page I put up for them to have a listen.

Your time and thoughts are appreciated:

Solid. I listened to a bit of all 4, solid production and playing, they are much better than most high school bands. They should be very happy with your work.

As far as the songs themselves, the only thing wrong is that they are a little boring. I dont know how that affects you or what you can do to encourage them to liven it up a bit. Maybe a few background vocals, a few synth pads, anything to make it a little more interesting.

I listened to 1 and 4

I Might be undertaking a similar rush job for a Band that wants to send some stuff to Radio down in Melbourne:

as David said solid , couldn't ask for much more there is a bad edit to the increased section in track 4 but whatever it's cool..

overall it's really good what more could they want?

Thanks for the listen and the comments!

Where's this bad edit you heard? I'm not hearing it--and certainly wouldn't want to leave it there. Thanks!

Thanks DavidK. I agree the songs could use some more interest. Getting them to play the songs the way I recorded them was already a big stretch. They had to relax and trust the "old guy" when he said double track, less gain, another guitar part here, etc. In the end they're quite happy--albeit a bit concerned about trying to sound like this live! :D

Great sounding songs.... yay!!
I didn't know what a major key was when I was in HS...

NITs
The BGV in song 2 are a little weird.... I can't really hear them because of the wide pan...
The guitars in song 5 go out of tune. The vocals are a little flat too. hmmmm... fit twer mee, Ide put sum auto-toon on it.

Great job! I have a couple of bands I produce like this... the older I get the more satisfying it is, really. Of course, it depends on the willingness of the lads to listen.

Peace!

Song one sounds similar to an Aussie band of the early 90's Thing of Stone & Wood - particularly their song Happy Birthday Helen.
That said your production is more sensitive & the acoustic at the beginning sounds really good. I was hoping for more acoustic & less electric but it'd be hard to resist when playing this track.
Song two the drums sound too modern for my taste - esp the bass drum.
The 1st few syllables of the 2nd voice are almost inaudible - at least incomprehensible which is a disappointment as the rest of the phrase is spot on.
Both could use a little bass definition.
The thirs voice seems just a little pitchy or nasal to me.
Good playing, writing & recording all 'round. The comments above are most likely matters of taste rather than any real mixing/tracking issues.

Good mixes IMHO - the lead vocals are nice and forward where I like 'em. The backups/layering worked out really well. Pass along a big  to the guys in the band too!

43 - 44 sec

Um i think from 43 sec to 44 sec the little guitar dub into the "raised" section, holistically it is a drum issue as, well they are a little thin just post, maybe you could hit a crash in that point to cover it or do something else it just stood out to me, maybe it's just me , it just dosn't seem fluid there.

i have a picture in my head of what the singer looks like.

btw the thin drums suit the nature of the song, but it's just that cross section for me?

overall really good but.

Listened to the first one. I like it so don't take my following comments as negative. I think the vocals sound just a little too much out in front, and it emphasizes the occasional pitchiness. Some sibilance also. Gtrs are pretty squashed and it reduces their rhythmic articulation in spots where they play quicker figures, like at :36.

I like the energy of the band.

I don't take it as negative as all. In fact you've confirmed some things I thought I was hearing as well. Thanks for the input!

I do this all the time--with singers, radio hosts, etc. So let's play: what's he look like in your picture?

I'll let you know how close you are.

XLR--given that I think you're hearing the same things I am, if you have the time would you go back and listen to the third one the list (actually called number 4, but it's third on the list) and tell me if the vocal approach in that worked better.

Thanks!

Ok!!

here goes:

Tan olive Complexion Large white beard at least chest length, lets see…. back and solder hair, one missing tooth (front left) , attractive and enduring neck and face tattoo's, large heavy set build, big fat sausage fingers with lots and lots of gold rings, but he has a beautiful smile, and probably just wants to be your friend.
