so honestly, how big of a step up is the delta44 to the motu828mkii??

It's gonna be a big 600 bucks at least that I'm spending on the motu and some other equipment, so i wanna make sure it's really worth it.

in a lot of loca home studio recordings, when i compare them to mine, they seem to much more "OPEN" if I can say that. like, a lot more space. Mine is always the exact opposite. of course, i think they both sound good, but that "openness" seems to grasp the "pro" sound a little better. And i'm talking before mixing even, I can hear the openness..just after the raw tracks are recorded. It's very noticeable in the drums. and discounting the recording room...does anyone know what i'm even talking about? ha.

so yeah, enlighten me to the motu. ha.

thanks crew. peaceout.

Can't speak for the sound of the 44's but when I took the plunge to the 828mkII, I was using a Soundblaster Live. Actually, still have the Live in my old machine .... MOTU got hooked up to my new one.
Needless to say, the difference between those two was night and day.
Though that's like comparing Melons to bird seed .... I'm just glad I got my hands on the MOTU melons. :D
The MOTU produces a much fuller and clearer sound.
Gotta love all the I/O too!

How many I/O do you need? I have the 828mkII and freaking love it. If you don't need that many inputs, you may want to consider other A/D convertors like Apogee or Lynx.

I should add (and don't attack me cause its just my opinion) that the MOTU sounds better than the Delta1010 to me (which I have heard has better converters than the 44). Also, not having a headphone jack blows.

Yeah, I guess that was a bit vague. WhatI mean is that my recordings made with the MOTU sound more accurate than the ones I made with the 1010. It sounds more like you are right there in the room with us playing. I used all the same equipment and mic placements (although it was on different days).

Wait, I just realized that when I had the 1010 I used two of the pre-amps of a Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer. When I upgraded to the MOTU, I used the 2 pre-amps on it. I bet that was part of the difference. Also, not to sound conceited, I was better at recording than when I had the 1010 (more experience). Well damn...disregard that "sounds better" comment.

yeah, i was about to ask that: preamp change? haha. that was probably a huge difference then...hmmm...

anytone else care to comment?
