And a good evening to all....

I've been dealing with a problem in 98se with Delta 66/SB Live and Sonar where when both the Delta and SB Live are enabled the Delta doesn't "show up" in Sonar. Of course, if I disable the SB Live the Delta shows up just fine. And note: there does not *appear* to be any IRQ conflict. Several folks have been kind enough to respond, and it seems like a bunch of people run the same config, but I've yet to find the answer to my problem. I have noticed that the SB Live is using WDM drivers....are there Delta WDM drivers that work in 98se? Which release?

Is the answer XP? I can do that. Is the answer that both cards need to use WDM drivers? I just want to use both cards!

hi . i used the delta audiophile 2496 card with windows 98se and although i've been using the latest 'wdm' capabbe drivers i don't think i was actually doing any 24 bit work. (I have installed ALL the versions of the midiman drivers)

Now i know this doesn't sound related to your post however after moving to windows 2000, sudenly Sonar gives me all sorts of new inputs selections and 24 bit works like a charm.

Installing windows 2000 seems to have magically unlocked some of my card's potential. Now i don't believe in magic so it must have been the card's drivers all along.

Do yourself a favor .. move to windows 2000 if you can. On top of better drivers capability, since you're doing audio work, i bet you've got lots of ram on your system. Windows 2000 will take better advantage of that memory.

I've gotten Delta WDM drivers to work with windows ME, which is similar to 98. However, I think WDM is really designed more for 2000/XP....if you want to use WDM in Sonar you have to have WDM drivers for all your (enabled) soundcards....I've got a Soundblaster live with WDM, as well as the Delta...both show up fine and the Delta records at 24/96. I can work with what I've got, but the audio engine stops a lot in Sonar and I think I'll continue to have this problem until I install XP. There are no official Delta WDM drivers for Windows 98 or Me...I downloaded my Delta WDM back in April when they were listed for Me/98, but I believe these are just the 2000 drivers, version : 5.12.1.10

Hey guys, thanks for your responses.

Well, I ended uploading XP....and now both cards show up and *appear* to be working! However, I now have audio problems (snap, crackle, pop) and my CPU utilization is through the roof! Didn't have those problems in 98se. But I'm sure I'll find an answer on these boards. Hell, half the fun is just looking!

I appreciate your responses.

I lied. Half the fun is not looking. This is driving me crazy.

Anybody....running XP with Delta 66 and SB Live and Sonar. Lots of static and pops on audio track playback. Doesn't surface during recording and midi playback not affected. Didn't have the problem with 98se. But couldn't see two soundcards in 98se, either.

I guess if I keep describing the symptoms someone will help. Is this just a common problem that the senior members, or anyone for that matter, are just tried of answering? If so, just someone please direct me towards the answer, or a thread I haven't seen, or an article I haven't found...anything.

For those who have posted (SpaceDye, Getuhgrip, tvallian,J,etc.) thanks for your help. Sorry I'm being impatient about this.

TIA

You have tried cranking the buffers up in the Maudio control panal as well as within Sonar(If there is such a thing, never used it)?

What are the rest of your system specs? CPU, mainboard etc.

Couple of suggestions -

First try raising your latency (either in the Delta Control Panel or in Sonar - or both). You can start with Sonar. Open Options -> Audio and try increasing the buffers to 4. If that doesn't help, move the slider to the right a bit. Reprofile your sound cards after making any changes.

You can also try disabling ACPI (although I think with XP you have to do this when you are installing the OS). I'm not running XP, but I understand this to be a biggie. Don;t try and run a DAW under XP with ACPI enabled.

Last try disabling your USB ports (if you're not using them).

One of these will probably work for you. Good luck.

Hey Guys, Thanks for your responses. Emeric, I've got an AMD 350 with a cheapass Acer Motherboard and I thinks its a VIA chipset. I'm using 320MB's of Ram:-) I have messed around quite a bit with the buffers.

Thanks as well, dachay2tnr. Your suggestions are taken under advisement.

I've read seveal people say that they use WDM drivers with Win 98se....is this true? Which specific drivers?

i doubt you'll be able to get WDM to work at all with that processor. stick with MME.

Sonar is DESIGNED for Windows 2000, as are the WDM drivers. XP gives everyone fits as of yet and is a bloated hog of an O/S.
Use Win2K, Sonar, and WDM drivers. Ask questions afterwards.

Oh, missed your setup, eek. Upgrade, dude, its dirt cheap right now.

Thank you, thank you for your replys. I wondered about upgrading....in fact, I will probably take my current "home office" and game machine and put it into duty as the recording PC. Its an Athlon 1.2GHZ with 256MB, and I've got 128MB more I could put in it if need be. I had planned on upgrading the MB/Processor on the recording PC anyway...

Not at all to argue, but I thought I was reading around here where people were diggin' XP. Perhaps I haven't read enough. I've got 2000Pro somewhere around here...

Thanks again, boyz. Having a direction is better than spinning your wheels.

AMD k6-2 350 using WDM

hey i've got win 2000 on a amd k6-2 350 with 448M RAM and a el cheapo 5400 RPM drive. using the audiophile 2496.

It works perfectly with Sonar.

I have gotten those pops and clicks. check the m-audio control panel ... by default windows sets the DMA buffer size to 384 samples I believe. Personally I set it to 1024 and it works perfectly now with both Sonar and my .. ahem .. 'mastering' software..

In sonar, under the options/audio menu ...

I set the number of buffers 8 and the latency bar to about half way.

Pops and clicks no more! I'm not even planning to upgrade my system. I'm buying a new bass guitar instead. Yeahoo!

(My tracks are very limited however. 8x24 bit audio tracks is about all i can handle. It's actually all my band needs since we just play soild rock/progressive. no fancy electronic stuff)

Back to the Delta - WDM - 98SE issue...

I am in exactly the same boat: using Sonar, MME works fine but the instant I upgraded my frontier card to WDM compatibility, Sonar no longer would "see" the Delta44 unless I forced both cards to use MME.

So, it looks like the current Delta44 driver for 98SE is *not* WDM compatible (despite what various websites say).

The big question is: will there *ever* be a WDM driver for Delta44 under Win98SE? Was there already one [possibly a beta], and if so, where can we find it?

Thanks!

Travis

it's unlikely that we'll see official Delta WDM for 98SE or for Windows ME.

Last time I checked, XP [Professional] *IS* the next version of 2000...

And for the record, I have been using XP for about 3 months with no problems. WDM drivers in Sonar and all!!

Win2000 was considerably slower with higher latency and gave me more trouble with WDM drivers than XP!
