I've got the delta 66 finally installed. But the card seems to crash whenever I try a few things:

I installed Live Delta (CD that came with the card) – whenever I try to start the program; it displays the splash screen and then my computer crashes…

I installed Reason (another CD that came with the card) – this program starts fine – BUT under the options menu I Page to “Audio” so I can select my audio card – whenever I select “ASIO M-Audio Delta ASIO”; the second I do this the computer crashes again…

Finally I installed Cubase SX 2 (the program I actually want to use - the other 2 were for testing the card) - when it goes to do its inital scan testing the card and (referring to the ASIO driver)...the computer crashes as well.

I have the most recent driver installed for the card from the website 5.10.00.0048.

Please help.
Cheers
David

My guess would be that the old drivers did not uninstall correctly. Try this:
uninstall the drivers, shut the computer off, pull the pci card out, restart the computer, shut it down, install the pci card, install the new drivers.

Thank you for the reply...
I have tried doing that - that is starting with the newest drivers, after uninstalling all related drivers prior to doing so...still no luck

Another way that the card crashes is going to the "Sounds and Audio Devices" from the Control Panel in XP. Click on the "Voice" Tab and clicking, "Test Hardware" - its proceeds for about a minute and then crashes.
I've got the playback/recording setup as follows:

Windows Control Panel, Audio tab:
Sound playback default: M-Audio Delta Multi
Sound recording default: M-Audio Delta 1/2

The M-Audio Delta Control panel is also showing life - its my current output (delta card) (although no sound is going to my speakers - or can be heard) I can see the volume clipping (reaching the top) when I play music or other various sounds.

If your computer is crashing at such basic things, then it is most likely something more serious than simply your Delta card, These are quite a stable card under most situations with finicky hardware, but if your PC crashes it could be many things...When you have hungry programs such as Cubase, more often its an Memory issue..

Upgrade your Bios on your Mother Board which may solve some issues, then try slowing down your PC in the BIOS by runing conservative System acceleration options like Memory Timings and Bus speeds.

If your still crashing then you have somthing incompatible like video card, or bad memory. If you remove your Delta does your system run "crash free"!!!

If you tell me what system your running I might be able to help. Run MEMTEST and other performance system testing utilities to stress the diferent components and narrow down the possibiltys for your system..

I have enough memory. 512. I used cubase with my onboard sound card prior to installing the delta and it worked without a glitch.

I'd like to leave updating my bios, as a last resort...

Yes, prior to the card being in there, it was 'crash free'.

If you tell me what system your running I might be able to help.

Did you disable your onboard soundcard in the bios?

Did you disable your onboard soundcard in the bios?

Well...thats a problem area.
Whenever I disable it; windows will boot normally and goto log me in - but if freezes on the 'Welcome' screen everytime. Only when I enable the onboard sound will it load fully. I've tried uninstalling the driver (C-Media AC97) -> disabling onboard sound -> then booting; but it still freezes.
So I've got the driver disabled right now, I've tested the "Test Hardware" thing, mentioned below - and it still restarts the computer on me half way through doing it...

Just backup format reinstall. If you would of done that from the get go you would of been up in running are you know the delta 66 just doesn't like your MOBO

M-audio support finally got back to me.
They mentioned that because I have a SiS chipset; there are known incompatabilities...can someone confirm this before I return the card?

its probably so. i wouldnt doubt it. but you can try one more thing....unfortunately it requires starting over. remove the delta66, remove the drivers for the delta 66, start the computer again....go to control panel, sound devices, properties, hardware, click on your AC'97 audio controller, where it says device usage..click disable. turn off the computer go back into the bios screen and disable the thing that we did the last time, save configurations, turn off computer immediately, install the delta66, load the latest drivers for it and see if it works then. i know thats a long stretch but it might work

Known Incompatibilites eh......

UPDATE YOUR BIOS, I know your reluctant, however this is the CORE of any PC and there maybe a REVISION that FIXES the problems your having!!! I would try this first!!! Its easy so just do it...

Seeing as tho, you computer runs CRASH free without your DELTA onboard...I would get a New Mobo...Your only other option is to Try 'STANDARD PC' mode and very modest BIOS system performance settings.... also try disabling "AUTOMATICALLY REBOOT WINDOWS ON ERRORS" this will stop your system rebooting and then you can just check the ERROR LOGS for more info....you could be stuffing' around for ages, and yes, you might be able to get it to work eventually by stuffing around...check out the WWW for your brand of MOBO and see what problems other peeps are having...

Cool, thanks for all the help.
I think due to fustration and time restraints, I'm going to just opt out for another card - any suggestions for similar cards?

You wouldn't happen to know any Canadian sites would you...

I'm not much of a mobo buff...I've tried to hit up some reviews on google, but found limited info. Off the top of your head, which board is better?
I personally like tigerdirect - so would probably just go with them, because I trust them.

I've had good luck with tigerdirect also. The Chaintech mobo gets good reviews and it seems pretty well loaded with features.

i'm almost afraid to try maudio with my abit/via chipset board but its worth a shot.

Is that similar to a SiS chipset?

Are worldwide chipset standards really that different that M-audio can't create a card that runs on all of them...?
