Hi all,

Based on a lot of good advice from this and other forums, I've bought the M-Audio Delta 44. Got here this morning and looks gooood.

What I didn't know, though (or managed to not notice) is that some of the bundled software, the Logic Delta stuff, is apparently not kosher with Windows XP.

I have a friend that can help me partition my drive and install a Win98 partition on my computer, so I can boot to the Logic Delta-friendly W98, but...is it worth it? Or with decent audio software does the Logic Delta stuff become irrelevant?

I'm working in journalism, not music, so I'm going to be gathering a lot of voice and processing it with a music bed. I know the D44 is a little overkill for that, but I'd rather have more than I need than less.

So -- is Logic Delta worth any hassle, or can I safely skip it?

I got Delta Logic with my Delta as well, though I never tried using it. I'm not sure where the CD is , otherwise I'd check to see how it differs from other versions of Logic.

If you don't need a lot of tracks , you might try to find Plasma Express , it is a freebie that has been on a couple of recent COMPUTER MUSIC magazine CDs...It's very much like Sonar , and it uses the Sonar engine. However, you can only record 4 audio tracks (mono or stereo), and I'm not sure whether you can record more than one track at a time. You can get around the first limitation by bouncing tracks together to free up tracks. I read somewhere that it was limited to four midi tracks, but I was able to load more than that. Plasma should be fully XP compatible and with XP you can take advantage of WDM drivers for low latency. If you don't need a lot of audio tracks, it is definitely worth checking out...Of course, if you like it and you need more tracks , you can upgrade to another version of Plasma or one of the other Cakewalk products.

I've heard that N-Track is healthy and cheap, too. I just wanted to make sure that Delta Logic wasn't THE GREATEST THING EVER or anything like that...

THE GREATEST THING EVER exists only in your mind....not trying to be a smartass, but Delta Logic may be a very usable program...however, if there is an OS problem I'd check out alternatives in the same price range.

Good philosophy. Thanks! Lots of people on this board seem to be big Delta fans, and none of them have really raved about Delta Logic, so I don't think I'll be missing the Next Big Thing in audio software by passing it up.

delta logic is basically a stripped down version of logic... like the older version 4 I think... the tracks are limited... I think the effects are limited...

its just one of those freebie softwares so you can't complain about paying 400 for a sound card and no software coming with it... alot of multi-tracking softwares give "free" versions to soundcard companies to package with their card but these "free" versions are always very stripped down and very limited.
