Delta 44 problem

I just recieved my delta 44 soundcard, so I installed the card in the computer in the PCI port, I turned on the computer and installed the drivers and restarted.
It comes up with the M-Audio Delta 44 pannell, so I plug my guitar into Insert 1 in the break out box but it does not pick up anything in the pannell ???
So I went to My Computer and went to hardware then device manager, it showed up under sound, video and game controls so i presume the hardware is fine...
Why isnt it picking up anything from my guitar pedal and guitar ????

The inputs of the Delta are line level inputs. A guitar does not put out a line level signal. It needs to go through a preamp to be brought to line level.

Ok I just installed it in another PCI port so it works now, i got my headphones in Line 1 output and my guitar pedal in Line 1 input but everything is coming out on the left side....is it possible to use my onboard soundcard as an output

The Delta 44 ins and outs are balanced mono, line level. To hear stereo playback you need to use two outputs (1/2 or 3/4). Being line level, they won't drive headphones very well without a headphone amp, but if you don't need it loud you can get a splitter cable (two male 1/4" connectors on one end, one female 1/4"TRS on the other end). You can also use your other soundcard, config your recording software to use it as the output, but that is presumably of less quality.
On the other end of things, if your guitar efx processor is a stereo unit, you'll need to get it going into two inputs of the Delta 44 (1/2 or 3/4) to record it in stereo, and you need to set the record track to stereo. If you are recording a stereo track, but only sending a mono signal to input 1 of the delta 44, you're going to end up with guitar in just the left channel of the stereo buss in your software.

He's saying that if your pedal outputs a stereo signal, you can record that as a stereo track in your software (via inputs 1&2). However, if you are miking an amp, or running another mono source into the input, you should be recording to a mono track in the software, panned to the middle. That way, it will play back equally through the left and right speakers.

Secondly are the outputs. If you have powered monitors, you can connect them to outputs 1/2 (L/R) on the delta card. For headphones, you'll probably need a small mixer or headphone amp to use them with the delta card, as it doesn't have a headphone output. I use the presonus hp-4 with my delta 66, which allows me to connect my monitors and up to 4 pairs of headphones.
