I have a delta 44 from M-Audio that is driving me crazy. I have spoken to their tech support but I might as well be speaking to another country.

My system is an AMD 2600+. Win2K, 512MB Ram, 80GB WD & 120GB Maxtor machine.

The problem is the audio card keeps adding clicks and pops into the sound stream. I recorded a concert the other day on a Fostex VF160. When I played it back on the Fostex it was pristine. So I wanted to edit the sound and burned a cd with the waves and imported it into my computer so I can use my CEP.

When I get the files in my system if I just play them using any software (mediaplayer, winamp, etc) there are tons of little clicks and pops. If I change the DMA buffer size it gets a littl better but never goes completely away.

When I put them in CEP the clicks an pops are now part of the file. I edited the file and burned a cd and sure enough there were all the clicks and pops.

M-Audio says it is because the card is sharing and IRQ. So I changed my ACPI to standard and set the card so it does not share and it still clicks and pops.

I then used a brand new drive and installed WinXP and it still clicks and pops. How can anyone use this card to edit with?

Any ideas on how to straighten this out?

I have so many projects to finish I can't waste anymore time.

Thanks

This is a common problem, luckily for me i never had it - unlucky for you becuase i'm not positive what to do! haha.

first off, do you have an via motherboard? if so, you may need to download some via "4-in-1" driver updates, etc. etc. - i had different problems because i didnt have that origianlly, mine would just add crazy amounts of static noise.

next, play with your buffer sizes in all your host programs - and especially the delta control panel.

did you RECORD the audio to your comp? if so, the clicks and pops have been RECORDED to your computer, IN the file. if you just did a sort of drag and drop thing, (aka, not going through your sound card at all...just hard drive to hard drive) - then that should not be the case.

You may want to try physically moving the card to another slot in your computer - that was a solution for some of my IRQ sharing problems.

Hey thanks Shamrock for your suggestions. Believe or not I may have stubled on a way to fix it. At least for the moment it seems better.

I found the studio-central website and they had a pretty good article on this problem which led me to some small changes in my setup but enough that is seems to have helped.

I am new at this so I am still feeling around a bit.

Thanks

Sometimes Windows doing things in the background like resizing the swapfile for example can cause clicks and pops. What was your fix?

I had the same issues with my 44 until I migrated from 98 to XP, so I still don't know the root cause.

Interested to know how you resolved your problems
