Delta 44 and 66. Which to consider?

I am looking to upgrade my recording setup and finally get a decent soundcard. (currently using Turtle Beach Santa Cruz...my Achilles heel) I have heard good things about the Delta line. My question is this. The Delta 44 and 66 are essentially identical except for the fact that the 66 has that digital I/O thing. I am not too familiar with this technology, but I DO know that my Kurzweil K2600Xsynth/workstation has a port in the back for usage of this technology. Is this something I may want to use in the future, and should pay the extra 70 bucks for this feature? Thanks dudes! ---Lee
 
Going all digital from one device to another has the benefit of bypassing the extra A/D and D/A conversions which always result in some degradation of the sound quality and picking up of some noise in the analog stage.
I find digital connections pretty convenient and I use the digital I/O on my soundcard (either in combination with external converters or for instance the digital out on my amp modeler) more often than the analog I/O.

Whether you'll get any use out of it or whether it's worth $70,- is really up to you.
 
I bought a delta44 when Mars was going out of business, but traded it in for a 66 weeks after because I wanted the extra S/PDIF channel for my POD pro.

Your story is a little different, but from what I've gathered, you can save time and AD/DA degradation like christiaan mentioned above. But the catch is, a lot of people prefer running a keyboard/synth thru some DI or preamp for that extra juice/coloring. So, it really depends on what you wanna do with that extra S/PDIF in/outs. On the other hand, many outboard effects units now have S/PDIF in/outs, so, it will come in handy if you plan on routing a pre-recorded track to an outboard unit then back to your computer, saves you AD/DA convertion there.

Thank you all for imparting your experience. Very helpful, indeed! Think the 66 is the way to go. I hear they have an "omni" version of the 66 that has XLR inputs with phantom power, but I am pretty happy with running my LD condenser thru my JOEMEEK V3CQ for the vocal tracks. Thanks again! ---Lee
